I am new to the boards and so glad I found it.
I could write a book on what has happened to me in the last month.
I have had fibromyolgia for 17 years and I took zoloft which gave me back my life, but I still had pain.
Doctor decided to try me on cymbalta because she thought it would help with the pain.
Started out on 30 mg and had some weird side effects flu like symtoms, chills, stomach aches bad menstral cramping.
Tried taking it at different times, and after a few weeks the symtoms eased up.
I would also get car sick.
I take protonix for acid reflex, lodine for an anti inflam, alegra for allergies, keflex or after intercourse because I get bladder
infections and Zantax to help me sleep at night, and I also receive chiro practic care and recieve muscle stem and other ultra sound.
My supplements are  Dona for quisamine, an immune supplement so I dont get sick.
2 weeks ago, I started taking 5htp and after I took it for about 5 days I started itching and breaking out in hives but the bad part about it is that I said 3 types of rashs.
Some  of the spots started outu looking  looking like  mosquito bites, some look like large purple red circles that expanded to the size of a baseball on the back of my legs, behind my knees, neck, stomach, ankles, arms, and even hands and fingers.
I went to the dr and she gave me a steroraid shot and I felt great the rest of the day
ON Sunday had another flare up so she called me a steroid pack and did fine that day, next day I was sick has a dog so I quit taking it went back on bendaryl( which seems to have the opposite effect  on me makes me hyper)
Since I had been on the Cymbalta for about a month, dr thought it just was a drug inter reactions with 5htp so we tried it again and within an hour I started itching again.
I went back to the dr yesterday and got another shot and she wants me try effecdor 37 and gabapentin 300 mg which I have tried yet.
I have been having severe migranes like never before so on wed on  my way to the chiropractor,I had a guy hit the side of my front end of car.( just really a scratch)
Called the chrio to tell them I would be a few minutes late that I had a small fender bender and has that turns out, the guy had no insurance so when the cop came, he said my inurance would probably go up more then it would cost to fix the car so we didnt feel out a report.
After all the heck I wa already going thru, when I walked in the Chrio office, they wanted me to fill out all this stuff about the wreck!! I told then it was a scratch on the bike, and I get bigger jolts on myself from riding with my husband on the Harley!!
I had an hour before I to pick up my grandkids, and they wanted to do xrays before they did my treatment.
I have went to this Chiro for 10 years and have had care every 2 weeks, so  I could not comprehend why all this.
They did the x rays which I hadnt had since 2000, and when they showed me the xrays, they said there was a small fracture in my neck, and a chip on the right side of the neck from the accident I just had.
So he barely gave me an adjustment and said he needed to study the exrays further and that I should go after this guy that hit me!!!
Now I am thinking I have really lost my mind and my head was killing me!!!!
Can you beleive this!! I personnally think that that they were not current on the xrays and been treating me all this time and thought if I do file a claim and they would get caught.
When I told my Dr about this, she said we will just do a mri on you, and felt like they were trying to come with a way to make more money on me.
I am very upset about this since I have went there for 10 years and have putp my trust in them.
Yesterday I did go get a massage that works with alot of fibro patients and wow !!!! I felt great.
I think this 5htp really caused a flare up and am still itching.
I have an emontional basket case since I havent had any seratonin so I going to go back on zoloft before trying these new drugs.
My  husband says I will ask  him something , and he will say " you already asked me that earlier and I dont remember that I did and I get so upset with myself, and he doesnt understand that I am mad at myself and not him.
I am emotionial , and am trying to get a grip on this
I lost weight this last year, and seems like no matter what I do, my weight stays the same.
I did michael thurmond and only lost 2 pounds in 2 weeks and my aunt did it and cheated and lost 15 lbs!
I am lwondering if anyone has had any experiences like mine or have tried  gabapentin or effeclor sounds like effeclor is very addicitive like Zoloft, it hards to get off because you have those bran zaps and am in a fog.
 looking for help

Hi, Flame, and welcome to the fibromyalgia forum!  I'm so glad you joined us.

You really have a lot going on with you.  You seem to be on so many medications that it's difficult to see what is causing what symptoms.  I did check out the 5-HTP and it can cause rashes plus you shouldn't be taking it if you have autoimmune problems!  You said that you did.  Did your doctor prescribe this?  You might want to talk to your pharmacist and go over the list of supplements you are taking.  They already know the prescription meds you are taking.  They could possibly help, too.

Here is a link about the 5-HTP.  Scroll down and towards the bottom of the page it talks about who should NOT take 5-HTP.  I hope this helps.

I hope this helps you and I also hope to hear more from you soon!
