Hey everyone,
Recently there was a long list that was posted here on this forum of symtoms for fibro. I really need that list. I had my first appointment with Rhuemy doc this week and it didn't go well. I didn't have enough trigger points and he did had me so rattled I didn't get to tell him my syptoms. I didn't even get to tell him about the numbness and pins and needles and all about the pain and how bad it get and when. The visual problems and so on and so forth. I didn't have all of the syptoms on the list but alot of them. He did blood work to test for imflammatory arthritis (sp?) and I don't know if he is testing for anything else. He even said with my history with depression it could be phycialogical (sp?) "in my head" in other words. I was so upset. So he said he would treat me as if it was fibro though and come back in a month. I thought he was going to give me neurotin and zanaflex but when I went to the drug store all he called in was zanaflex. I have been so upset. I have been so sick for weeks now and I need answers. And when I go to regular doc tests come back negative. Someone told me to get checked for lymes disease. I want to get that list and highlight my syptoms and call the docs office back and try to get in sooner and make him listen to me. Could anyone here offer me any advice. I have been so sick lately. Not only does my back and shoulder blades and neck hurt all the time I get muscle spasms that are bad. But the last 3 weeks I have had ear aches body aches I feel cold or hot. No fever though. I felt so bad yesterday i went to see nurse prationer and I just really wanted to tell her to put me in hospital. She said my anxiety could be making me feel this bad. Let me make this clear, I am upset, BUT its because I feel SOOOO bad and I need SOMEONE to help me and I feel like I am laying here dyeing and no one care. I appear to be healthy to everyone around me. I go for a colonoscopy next wensday but it will probably come back normal too. Everything else has. I need someone to help me. WHAT DO I DO!!!! Please someone help me cry

The list is in the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread at the top of the page of the forum.
Poco, we have been talking all week on this forum about when you go to see your doctor.  You might want to go through and read the stuff again. You really need to make out a list of your symptoms and questions you have and take it in with you.  You need to explain to the doctor what is going on.  Remember, YOU are paying him so that makes you the employer.  If they start to walk out and you don't have all of your list of questions answered tell them that you have a few more questions to ask.  You waited for the appointment so the doctor should be courteous enough to let you finish your question.  If not, "fire" him and find a new that will do the job for you.  Don't go in asking for drugs.  They will dig their heels in on that.
The Zanaflex may be all that you need.  Try it and see what it does for you and then work from there.  Why do you think you need the Neurontin?  You should try to take as little medication as possible.  I hope this helps.

Hi Poco,

There are lists of symptoms I believe in the fibro 101 thread. It is the second thread from the top on the first page. That should give you what you are looking for.

You need to try to relax. And the next time you go to the doctor's office, carry a list of everything that you want to talk about. I think that we all get into that situation of getting flustered at the doctor's office. You really have to get your point acrossed and stick to your guns with it. It is so easy to get off track. You have to make sure that you understand the things that the doctor tells you. I often try to write down what they say. If not, I forget. Either that or I don't know how to interpret what they are saying.

But first of all relax and try not to be upset. That only makes your pain worse. And could send you into a flare. So kick back, take a bath or relax with some music and try not to think about everything for a while. You can always call the office and ask about the neurontin. That is if you think it will help you.

Take care, keep us posted how things are going. I hope the fibro 101 thread is what you are looking for.

hugs, Karen

Hi Poco, don't blame you for being upset, SOME drs.?!?! The list you are looking for is located on the first page, second line down, Fibro 101. Read thru all the listing there, very helpful. Re the fever, or lack of one. Each time I had been in dr office, even w/ pneumonia, told my temp was fine. It turns out my temp runs low 94.6 - 96.6 so when I do have a fever I run about 98.6 - 99.0. Check your temp in the morning, before you get up. I also include that in my list of symptoms. Put down everything you have going on, whether it's on the Fibro list or not. There might be other things going on besides FMS. Not said to scare you, just to prepare you. Let's hope all your tests come back negative, that helps to ID FMS, too.

Most of us have other stuff going on in addition to FMS, it isn't fun at all. Stress can make everything worse, try to calm yourself for yourself, not for the dr. If it's FMS, it isn't going away anytime soon, we have to find ways to help relieve our stress. Exercise, talking to ppl that understand, prayer, meditation, a cuppa tea, hot shower, heating pad, reading a good book, an outing w/ a trusted friend, a hobby, spending lots and lots of money at the mall, oops forget I said that. lol

We all get frustrated when we want answers and they are slow to come. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

God bless.  Alice

I see by the dates that your dr visits should be done by today. I'm hoping for you that all went well and that you finally feel like you were heard. It's scary to not know what's going on, and it's frustrating to not get heard. Yes, you may have anxiety, and yes, you may have depression but usually they're not what causes the symptoms, they're a result of the symptoms.

The advice to try and keep yourself calm and your stress down is to try and help alleviate some of the the pain. I know that the more that I'm stressed the more that I hurt. Recently, just yesterday, I had a doctor's appt to look into going back onto pain meds. The anxiety of not knowing if the doctor would be willing to do so was compounding the awful pain that I was having to begin with. Once it was over (and it went well) I was immensely relieved and of course my mood was improved. Today, I've made it through so far without having to take any breakthrough meds, simply cause my stress level is way down now. I'm not holding all that anxiousness in my body anymore and in turn I'm not hurting nearly as bad anymore.

Hopefully you took a list of symptoms with you, as well as notations about how it's affecting you. What you're having trouble with doing, how it is that it's impacting your daily life. Etc. I was advised to do that same kind of thing during my visit and it turned out well for me. I was able to get the phys therapy, the pain management, and him to look over the test results that another doctor had ordered so that I could get a second opinion confirming the same answer.

It's not nearly as easy to do it as it is to say it, but.....relax. Not every doctor in the world can be a jerk. It just seems like it sometimes. lol

Thanks everyone for your support! I am quite upset because I have been so sick and I haven't gotten any answers as to why. The list I am referring to was a list that had something to do with a person named Radio I think. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I know about the list at the top. But I do appreciate the responses. I really just need some help from some doctor. I don't even know if anyone will read this or not. I sure hope so.

I think the list you want is from Radio's website:

Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Hope this helps.

((((hugs for Poco))))

Hi, I am visiting from the Crohn's forum.  I just wanted to stop and give you a virtual hug poco.  I completely understand your frustration.  I too am on this quest to figure out what is going on with my body and when different tests come back negative, I get the feeling they just want to leave at "it's in your head, here have a prescription for that".  And it is very frustrating.  So, as others have suggested, try to relax - and then do as much as you can to be proactive.  Which it sounds like you're, you're on the right path!  Keep your head up and keep listening to your body smilewinkgrin
