Ive been on Norspan patch for a year now, when ever I get break through pain, or slight flare I panic and think the  patch is no longer working, I was just wondering how long anyone has been on a particular patch and they are.  I want to ask my specialist but dont want him to think im a druggie. What patch and for how long.    sue2z skull skull skull

Isn't the Norspan patch the one with Tramodol that you get in Australia?  As far as I know, there is not anything like that approved in the US, yet.  BTW-Too bad, because it could probably help a lot of people over here.  Anyway, this is just an assumption, but maybe you are becoming used to the strength of the patch.  I know that with fentanyl patches, they come in 5 different strengths.
BTW-I am certainly not calling you an addict-I would never do that. nono   But, after a certain amount of time, our bodies build up a tolerance.  Maybe you could ask your doc about something for breakthrough pain.  Just a suggestion.  I do hope you find relief, soon. yeah
FINALLY dxd on 06/13/08
Vicodin, Neurontin, Ibuprofen for pain-which doesn't help, BTW
Zoloft & methadone (NOT for pain) for sanity-which doesn't help, BTW
Klonopin for anxiety (Guess what?  Doesn't help!)
Chantix to try to quit smoking (started 08/20/08)

I use the Fentanyl Patch.  I was started on 25mcg, after 1yr I was bumped up to 50mcg.  I cannot go any higher.  My body will not tolerate it.  I use oxycodone for breakthrough pain.  Several mths ago I stopped using the patches becuase I didn't think they were working anymore.  I was able to saty off for 1 mth.  I had no choice but to go abck on I found out they were indeed helping me.  I don't know why, but I guess we forget the full extent of the pain when it is being treated.  We (I) need a reminder from time to time.

I have thought of going of but then I thought the sme, prob forgot just how bad the pain really was. Its awful to have to rely on them but I do know I need them.   I can prob take over counter med for breakthrough pain.

I have never heard of those patches. I know my grandma would give me some of her lidocaine patches, and they help. Maybe you could ask your doc about those...?

I wonder if it is norco?

I agree, you need something for break thru pain. Good advice ladies.

I hope that everybody has a wonderful day today. It is gloomy and rainy looking here today. We are suppose to get hurricaine Ike's rain tomorrow. Now I want to see on the news how it went last night. I feel bad for people who lost their homes. Maybe Northern Michigan isn't so bad after all.

Luv and hugs to all,
