Hi all!! I have been experiencing a lot of fibromyalgia symptoms and figured I would join you all. Three months ago my left leg suddenly swelled up. I was tested for blood clots and was sent for a CAT scan of my abdomen to check for anything that could be causing me to swell like that. Normal again. I've been to an orthopedist, a vascular surgeon, had a nerve study done, and an MRI to check for a herniated disk. Everything normal, again. My leg has swelled two more times noticably, but it feels swollen more often than that. I'm constantly tired, my back and my left leg constantly hurt, my leg twitches, I'm forgetful and spacey and have been suffering from panic attacks and depression. I'm seeing a neurologist today and a rheumatologist today and I'm praying to God that I will finally get an answer to my pain by the end of the month. I'm out of work on disability due to panic attacks, and have learned that this pain is what's making me panic. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Hi, BumBum, and welcome!  Most of it sounds familiar.  We do feel like our extremities are swollen but they usually aren't.  I do have a swollen toe every now and then but that may be some osteoarthritis.  I've never heard of someone's leg actually swelling up from fibro.  I could be wrong, though.
If you haven't already, check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There is a lot of good info about fibromyalgia in there, including a list of symptoms.  You may be surprised at how many you may have.
I hope you get some answers at your doctors' appointments today.  Let us know how it goes.  We really do care.  I'm so glad you decided to join in and I hope to hear more from you soon.

BumBum (great name, BTW), :-)
Welcome to the fibro family!  I know how frustrating it can be when you just want answers to why things are happening to you.  It's SO frustrating to hear, "everything's normal" when you know that everything isn't normal. shakehead   I have fibro and I MIGHT have lupus, too.  I have been in lupus limbo for almost a year, and while I don't WANT to have it, all I want is for my rheumy to tell me that I DON'T have it.  LOL-then I want him to tell me what is wrong with me-besides the fibro, because I have a lot of "non-fibro" symptoms.  I have a leg and ankle that swells at least once a month (but that is probably because I had a stress fracture last year), but I also have a lot of other swollen joints.  I don't know if you've read about lupus, and obviously, I'm not suggesting you have it, but there is a good lupus site here and also at www.lupus.org just in case you are interested.
I really hope you get some answers.  Also, I hope you'll feel comfortable enough to come here with any problems, questions, comments, or even if you need to vent.
Good luck and please, keep us updated. :-)

Hi and welcome!

I too sure do hope you get some answers soon. At least you'll know what you are fighting. I may or may not be fibro. More typical of fibromyalgia is body pain/tenderness in all 4 quadrants of the body. Swelling is not normal with fibro but I'm not a doc and sure don't pretend to know it all. I'll be very interested in hearing how your tests turn out and the doc's diagnosis. I wish you well!

Well, I went to the neurologist yesterday and of course he was like, "Hmmmm...." He suggests lymphedema, but I was told by my vascular doctor my circulation and everything is just fine. And that diagnosis wouldn't support why both my hips hurt, my tailbone, my knee, shoulders and back. So off for bloodwork I go and I am scheduled for two nerve tests in October, NCV and EMG, both of which sound like tons of fun (groan) I did mention to him fibromyalgia and he said I should definitely see a rheumatologist to rule out or find a rheumatic disorder. Here's hoping someone finds out what's going on!!

Hi BumBum and welcome. Sounds like you have been through the mill with medical test. If you get a dx of fibro you will know there is nothing else wrong with you. I went through months of testing and then went into a fibro flare and it all clicked for my doc. So hopefully you will have answers soon.
luv and hugs

Hi BumBum and welcome-

Sounds like they are covering all the bases. I had a quick diagnosis because the fibro hit me like a ton of bricks!! MRI, and gallons of blood work all came back normal. They went by all my symptoms. I do not have any swelling but like Sherrine said, it feels like it though.

Hope you can get some answers soon! GamJill
