hi everyone,

from time to time, especially when i'm really tired, the glands in my neck swell and feel tender and sore. i've been checked for every disease under the sun and have tested negative on all counts, so i'm wondering what on earth could be causing this? do any of you other fibromites get this?

just curious...

hope you're all having a good day:)

Hi Danielle,
Yes, I get that, but it's due to my Lupus or Sjogrens.  I'm not sure if Fibro is related to swollen glands or not.  Wish I had more help for you.

I do, but mine started when I had mono (which doctors think caused the Fibro). Have you had mono?

I always get swollen glands.. but mine is from too many bouts of strep and tonsilitis so the slightest thing can set them off.... even a flare up

well i tested negative for lupus and have never had mono. never had tonsilitis issues and have only had strep once.

i did some online research though and found a connection between swollen glands and chronic fatigue. does anyone have cfs? what's the difference betwen cfs and fibro?

thanks for your replies, everyone! :)

It could also possibly be chronic fatigue syndrome. I know I am in a flare when my throat is sore and my glands well.

Yeah, I have that a lot. I have decided it is a flare that feels like a flue and fever without a rise in temperature.

The least little flare up I have will make my right side of my neck and under my right arm hurt in the lymph nodes. I mentioned this to my dr. on the last visit and he said it wasn't so much as the lymph node in my neck as it was the muscle being in a really tight knot.

I had to take pain meds and muscle relaxers to get it to go away.

yes, that's exactly it. i feel like i've got the flu-achy and flush and worn down, but no fever. my throat also gets sore and my voice cracks.

definitely wondering now if it's cfs?

I was going through the sore throats and feeling like my glands were swollen not long ago but the doc couldn't find anything wrong. He thought the sore throats were sinus related. I do question whether I have CFS. I guess muscle tightness could cause that feeling. I also have sjogrens and have a swollen saliva gland under the right side of my tongue that never goes down.

First of all, I can't remember if I've ever said hello to you (I blame it on the fog), so "hello!" tongue
You described how I am feeling (right now) exactly.  For the past 3 days, I've had a slight sore throat (it's almost like an achy throat-if that makes sense), I've been extra fatigued, and extra achy.  I thought I was getting a cold or something (because I'm not used to these freezing temps).  Then, this AM, I noticed that my lymph node under my left arm was swollen.  I even had my mom check to make sure that I'm not just imagining things, and she agreed that it is swollen.  I have been in lupus limbo for over a year, I can't have tonsilitis because I don't have tonsils, and when I was a teenager, the docs thought I had mono (but I never really got a positive test-this was 20 years ago).
Anyway, I don't think that swollen glands are a typical symptom of fibro.  But, the words "typical" & "fibro" never really go together anyway. wink
I hope you feel better, soon. :-)
FINALLY dxd with fibro on 06/13/08
Vicodin, Neurontin, Ibuprofen for pain-which doesn't help, BTW
Zoloft & methadone (NOT for pain) for sanity-which doesn't help, BTW
Klonopin for anxiety (Guess what?  Doesn't help!)
