Did you get your flu shot this year, but have been plaqued with colds and sore throats anyway??  Evidently...this year was yet another "MISS" (that's what the experts call it), that the researchers predictions are wrong again.  In the past 7 yrs, they have been correct twice.
I dont know if that means we are not protected at all, or if they mean we are not protected from alot of virus', anyway..just thought I would pass this along.  So far....for me anyway...I have been well....(hope I dont jinx myself saying that) devil

I have been lucky so far. No flu or colds and I leave the house every day. It is very difficult to predict flu strains but wrth getting a shot. A pandemic is still feared. Normally I would ignore such a warning but friends in the health department have convinced me otherwise.

We got the flu shot, but we both ended up sick. It was bronchitis though so I don't know if it was actually a flu that started it or a cold. The doctor gave both of us antibiotics and prednisone burst. We are both getting better now. Plus we got the good cough syrup. It puts me to sleep. Which is good when you are sick.

Thanks for the info Diane, that was quite interesting.

Hugs, Karen

I didn't get a flu shot this year either.  I hate shots.  I guess that isn't a good reason but it's all I've got right now.  LOL  I had heard it was hard to predict accurately but I didn't realize how often it was wrong.  I had figured a higher percentage but I guess it does help with the flu's we can get immunized for, (if we do get immunized)may not be the biggy but it helps.  Hugs, Denise

There is no shot for every bacteria out there.  Then there are viruses that they can't treat, too.  I wouldn't think of not getting my flu shot.  Our bodies are beaten down with fibro as it is and I want any protection I can get my hands on!

This is the first year I got a flu shot. But, since my Dx with fibro in the spring, my GP highly recommended it. I've had two nasty colds so far, which were "gifts" from the grandbabies, the second of which required antibiotics to get rid of.

I guess I'm not surprised, as I'm sure my immune system is compromised due to lack of physical fitness and lack of sleep.
Still learning how to manage my Fibromylagia, and all the lovely gifts it brings.
I had severe spinal stenosis, had fusion done on C5-7, and my life has changed.

I didn't get my flu shots for many years because it always seemed that they would make me sick. It was just me reacting to the older vaccines. The newer ones don't do it to me any more. Also, remember the flu is a respiratory disorder and not something to do with your tummy. Here's the CDC take on it...
influenza (the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year. Every year in the United States, on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu; more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and; about 36,000 people die from flu. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications.

Here's a link to their web site. From what they are reporting, this year seems to have lower numbers so far...meaning hopefully very few people will get the flu or have serious complications from it. We sure can hope.

Thanks for posting that Chutzie, for years I used to think that flu was a stomache ailment too.  I have to take my chances and get that shot every year despite what they told us on the news this week.  especially if one has AI diseases.  I have been lucky for the last 9 years as far as flu bugs go, so I like to think that the shot, whether mis-prediction or not, has helped me.  It certainly wont hurt you that's for sure!  Also, I get a pneumonia shot every 7 perhaps the 2 combined are giving me a little added protection?

I'm with Sherrine; I'm usually the first in line to get a flu shot every year.  Since I don't have a problem with the vaccine, I figure that even if they don't get it just right, it's better to be safe than sorry.
I try so hard not to get sick and have to deal with that on top of my fibro (and asthma).  I always wash my hands as soon as I get home from being out and about. I keep a small packet of antibacterial wipes in my car, and I wipe my hands off as soon as I get in the car after I've been touching a shopping cart, lots of door handles etc.  If someone in my home is sick, I wipe everything down at least once a day with Chlorox wipes (remote controls, kitchen knobs/handles, sink handles etc.) And, if someone is coughing in public, I try to stay at least 3 feet away (I read that somewhere).
It may sound excessive, and I know my friends probably think I'm a germaphobe, but I haven't been sick in over a year. yeah

I saw an article that says that "Tamiflu" isn't effective against this year's new flu bug. Not so good to hear....
