Hi, Sue. I just wrote you a long post and then the site said I didn't have permission to post on this site! GRRRR So I'll try this again.
My first question is, do you take something for pain? I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, and malic acid/magnesium for pain and fatigue. I'm glad this combination works pretty good for me because I can alter the dosages depending on how I am feeling. This gives me better control of my pain and I don't always have to take the maximum amount.
I try to keep my surroundings as comfortable as possible. For example, right now I'm sitting on a stuffed leather chair that I have put a memory foam pillow in the seat. I also have a pillow behind my back. It's comfy! LOL
My mattress is a pillow top mattress that I have a foam egg crate on top of and I have a fiber bed (like a feather bed but you can wash it) on top of the egg crate. I also have a pillow that I put behind my back for support when I sleep on my side...the only way I can sleep.
I wear Birkenstock shoes because they have taken the pain out of my feet. Before I started wearing them, I could barely walk and my husband would have to order a wheelchair to help me out to airline gates when we would travel. Now, I can walk for several hours before I need to sit for a few minutes...primarily because I have some varicose veins...not because of my feet!
Sometimes I take short bus trips. The bus seats kill my back, hips and shoulders. I used to carry a small pillow to help with that but it was such a pain to lug around. So I did a web search and found a lumbar support pillow that fits in a small pouch that I can carry in my purse. When my back starts hurting, I take it out, blow it up (about 4-5 breaths) and voila! a lumbar support pillow for my comfort!
I do keep moving throughout the day. That is important to me so I don't become too stiff. Even if I only stretch for a minute or two, every little thing helps.
So, these are some of the ideas that I have come up with that help me to live the life I want as comfortably as possible with fibro. I'm never without pain but I have it controlled. That's important. Maybe some of these things would help you too. I'm sure you will have some good ideas of your own. Hope this helps!
