So, for about 4 months now I have felt like I have had a terrible stomach bug on and off... It started almost immediately after a bad fall that I had to go to the ER for, at first I thought "great - go to the hospital and come out sick" but after a few days, my DR said that it was a concussion.  But it hasn't gotten better, it's gotten worse.  Now, I had natural child birth 3 times and that was nothing compared to the pains that I have been getting in my abdomen!! I usually have a pretty high threshold for pain, but this wakes me up at night and I can't even speak the pains are so bad.  On top of it, I was diagnosed with severe whiplash from that same fall, so between that and pain from my abdomen I have been in really bad shape.
Anyway, since I had the back pain on top of the vomiting and cramping, I had asked my husband to rub some icy hot type stuff on my back... the slightest touch felt like I was being beaten and it was right near my kidneys and all those organs over there.  So, my husband is an EMT and he said that it seemed like symptoms of gall stones (im sure I spelled that wrong) and that I should go to the ER.
I went, stayed there for about 16 hrs and had a million tests and ct scans- the works.  The staff was giving me pain meds left and right and anti nausea stuff, but nothing helped, It was seriously the worst pain that I have ever been in, I literally hurt more than natural child birth!
Finally, the Dr comes over and says that he reviewed all the tests and the only things that showed up were a tiny cyst on my ovary that was nothing of significance, my white blood cells were high and my liver was enlarged, but they have no idea why or what could be causing it since everything that they tested for came back negative.  So, I got sent home with a prescription for donatol. He just said that it was weird muscle spasms taht he sw no medical reason for. The pains and vomiting come and go as they please and usually start at night and wake me up.
Something in my gut (haha no pun intended) tells me that this and all of teh other pains and soreness and constant lethargy are all intertwined somehow, especially since they've all been happening since almost the very same day.  Now I'm starting to have panic attacks about leabing tehhouse with my kids because I have no idea when all this crap will start up and how long it will last.
I feel like I am going crazy! There doesn't seem to be any medical reson that my body isn't healing, my muscles are failing and spazing and no Dr's are able to give me any answers!! It's just so frustrating to not know what is wrong with me and to wonder if the Dr's even believe me.
Has anyone ever gone through anything like this?  How did you handle it?

Have you been checked for kidney stones? Much of what you describe sounds like them to me. I've passed a few at home, terrible pain and nausea, and had surgery for some larger ones. Just a thought....

It can be very frustrating when you put your trust in someone who is supposedly to fix you. I can tell you one thing go to an allergistto see if you have any wheat, dairy,or gluten allergies. These can upset the gut. I work in a doctors office and see so many weird things that go unoticed all we can do is fight for our health. If you are not satisfied you are entitled to a 2nd opinion and maybe even a 3rd. Dont give up you WILL find someone who knows whats going on. God Bless!

Denial, no, I have not experienced anything like what you are describing, BUT take blessed's advice: do not give up and keep searching for someone who knows what is going on with you.. I am really sorry you are going through this.. constant questions with no answers is always so tough to deal with, and so depressing too. The problem is there are so many things that it could be.. check into kidney stones like Jeannie suggested since she has experienced them herself.. and maybe it even could be food allergies.. who knows confused But PLEASE don't just give up... find a doctor who takes you seriously enough to find you some answers so your mind is more at ease!

Hi Denial and Welcome-

Something does not sound right and I would find another Dr. and get another opinion. I would not be comfortable leaving the house either because of the symptoms you are having. Maybe keep your outings to a minimal till you can get this figured out.

Let us know how your doing-

Is the donatol helping at all??? I would make sure they check for kidney stones like Jeannie said. I get horrible cramping sometimes but it is always after I eat. It comes on quickly and I almost pass out from it, well I did pass out one time from it. My BP drops and I get very light headed. Thankfully it hasn't happened while I'm home alone and my DH has to help me lay down for awhile til the pain passes. I gave birth before epidurals also. I was suppose to have a colonoscopy months ago but with all my DH's problems I've put it off and they are going to do a sonogram of my small bowel cause sometimes the pain feels high up in that area too. I have not had the nausea with it. Our digestive system is all muscles so it makes sense that it would be involved in the fibro.
I hope they find the problem quickly.

I kinda had the same thing. i think. I would have severe pain in my abdomen as well and went to many dr's and ER I had all kinds of test and they showed nothing.  After about a mnth of constant pain i was told that i had sludge in my gallbladder but it really wasn't bad enough to remove (yeah right) I made them remove my gallbladder anyway.  Took me atleast 3 mnths to recover fr. the surgery but there has been no more pain.  I still to this day will be woken up in middle of the night vomiting. Don't know why??? I just believe this is just another effect fr. the fibro.  I've done some research and i have found some information saying that this is a symptom of fibro?????  I've went to GI dr's and they have also found nothing. Weird i think. Hope everything works out ok and u find out what is causing this.

Denial...definatly check the gall bladder, but the liver you take alot of Tylenol?to much can have almost instantanious effects onthe liver. Also, have you been tested for H-pylori? Its a bacteria carried by flies(no this doesn't mean your dirty or anything) If they land on your food they can transmit the bacteria very easily and its symptoms are simalar to what your having. That liver thing would have me very worried.I'll say a prayer & light a candle, please keep us updated.

I have had pain like that, had it for about 2 yrs, before I finally couldn't take it anymore ( yeah, I get stupid AND stubborn). It turned out to be my gallbladder. They said I had a 'farm' of stones. The pain was worse than a miscarriage and 2 births. My DH has had problems w/ Kidney stones. Yrs ago he landed in ER, recently he had several things hit at the same time. When it rains, it pours!! Two of the problems were kidney stones and kidney infection. The pain was horrible. He was in the ER and admitted to hopital, there for a wk. He was home regrouping and waiting for final procedure, which was this past wk. He just went back to work. Trust yourself, if you are feeling pain, there is pain, something is not right. If need be, find another dr. who will look at every possibility.

I also had a cyst on my ovary. I never experienced cramps during my period, till that cyst. The pain was so bad, I felt like I would pass out, not a good thing w/ a class of special students.

I have nausea daily, I take Reglan and most times it helps, till it starts again. You need answers, I hope you get them soon. Hope you feel better very soon.

God bless.  Alice.

Gallstones are sometimes difficult to detect, can cause the symptoms you are describing, and can cause your liver to be enlarged if one is lodged in a bile duct.  I had "sludge" also in mine and had it removed several years ago.  I had a lot of abdominal pain before the surgery that got better afterwards.
Kidney stones (I've had about 30) usually cause flank pain right under my ribs (on my back) on the side I have the stone.  As it gets lower I will feel pelvic and bladder pain on the side it is on.  My back would also feel tender around my kidney if I am having an attack.  Actually, there is a test called the "poor man's IVP".  If you are having an "attack" you can have someone gently tap around your kidney (like a karate chop) on your back.  If this is really tender, it can indicate a kidney stone.
I hope you find some answers, and I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, Thanks for all the responses.  yes, they checked my gall bladder and kidneys and splean and said they all looked fine, the only thing that they found was a cyst in my ovaries that they said was nothing of significance.  My husband thought it was the gall bladder also, that's what made me go to the er, I was actually kind of hoping it was, so that I would at least have a diagnosis and it could be fixed, but it wasn't that.
I was feeling okay for a couple of days, just a little wiped out from all teh stress on my body, but nothing debilitating, so I took my kids out all day today, had a good time feeling well enough to really enjoy them. On teh way home, actually about an hour ago, I had another attack of the pains while I was driving home, had to pull over until it subsided a little, in my lower abdomen this time.  I don't know, I just am not sure even what kind of DR to go to for this since I don't know what it is.  I just hate not knowing when my muscles are going to give out and all this wierd stuff that's been going on is going to start happening!  I guess, like anything else, I'll just adapt and get used to it - then I wont have to come and complain so darn much!!
Thanks again!

I also had chest pain that was unexplainable and that the doctors couldnt seem to figure out. When i thought it was my gallbladder, they started by doing a ultrasound and then also i requested for them to do a HIDA scan where they test how fast your gallbladder empties. Sometimes you may have a gallbladder problem but it cant be found on the ultrasound and further testing must be done. If you have the symptoms that match gallbladder problems i would recommend doing further testing. Another test that is done to diagnose chest or abdominal pain is a chest/abdominal ct scan.

What ended up being the cause of my chest pain was costochondritis. It is inflammation of the cartilage/tendons that attach your ribs to eachother. I also was diagnosed with gastroparesis. It is where your stomach has problems emptying. It can cause excruciating pain and cause you to throw up also. If you are having trouble eating and feel full if you eat barely anything and feel muscle contractions in your stomach, you may have that problem. You may want to read more about the disorder online and if your symptoms match it, then discuss it with your doctor.

I hope you are able to find answers to your pain problems soon. No matter what you do, dont give up. IF doctors cant find the answer, go to specialists. Research your symptoms online to find possible problems. It may take a while to find out the cause to your pain, but hopefully its sooner than later.

Good luck!

You know, partial bowel obstructions can cause a lot of pain and the nausea and vomiting.  It waxes and wanes, too.  Perhaps your intestines are twisting and causing the pain.  It is my opinion that you should see a gastroenterologist with this problem.  They specialize in the disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach, small and large intestines, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and biliary system.  An upper and lower GI could rule out things but you really need to be thoroughly checked.  I've never heard of this type of thing with fibro.
Please let us know what you find out.  We really do care.

Were you prescribed ibuprofen when you had your fall? Many non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds will trigger a gastric ulcer if taken long enough. Did they check you for an ulcer?

Geez Denial, Sorry you're in such pain and having so many problems. I have no great insight on your problems, but I wanted to let you know I'm concerned about you and hope you're feeling better soon. I agree with everyone that said you should get another opinion and Sherrine hit the nail on the head about a gastro - specialist.

Hi Denial. Your high white blood count indicates to me that you have an infection of some kind.
The enlarged liver they found could mean nothing as long as your liver enzymes were not elevated.

Often if your symptoms are gall bladder related, you will experience increased pain after eating a high fat meal.
This isn't always the case, but try to be aware.

Depending on the lower abdominal pain (meaning left or right) it could be a number of things. 1. Inflamed appendix or 2. diverticulosis

Like others have said, see a good GI specialist. One more could also be an adverse effect of some of the medications
you are taking.

Denial.........I had horrible pain in my abdomen a couple years ago (on Christmas day!) and went to the ER. I'd been having alot of pain for about 2 weeks, thinking it was my ovary. The ct scan showed a small cyst on my ovary. The ER doc said "its not enough to cause that amount of pain." But it was, and it did!! The pain slowly went away. I used to get these cysts off and on, as I was going through menopause. I'm wondering if the cyst IS your problem.
