As some of you know (I've posted before) tomorrow I'm having a double-mastectomy-reconstruction having had breast cancer 12 years ago. I'm pretty nervous today - it's an 11-hour surgery and I have this history of emetophobia (fear of vomiting). Even though the anethetist on the phone reassures me they'll give me a cocktail of anti-emetic drugs when I wake up it still freaks me out. Dying doesn't freak me out and neither does the thought of pain! I just hate feeling nauseous...well, more than hate it...I fear it.

Anyway, my fibromyalgia is really under control with the 3 drugs I'm on now. I was just about to consider going back to work full-time (or at least trying it - I'm half time now for the past year)...but then I got called for the surgery.

I hope that I recover from this (they say I'll be off for 2 months) and my fibro won't be any worse. I pray to God for that.

Anyway, if you're a religious person, please pray for me tomorrow (and today) Oh ya - and the day after that - pray I'm not NAUSEOUS! lol

This community has been a real help to me over the past few months - thanks to everyone.

I have Fibromyalgia, and nothing else!
I take Lyrica 225 mg/day and Tramadol (150mg time-released) and amytriptilene 7.5mg

Hi K9,

I posted twice asking when you had to go through this as I knew it was in February. I am so thinking about you and just know you will make it through with flying colors. They have great new drugs to help with the nausea and vomiting.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers all day tomorrow. With the fibro under control that is a huge thing.

Again best of luck, friend,

Hi K-9

Of course, I will keep you in my prayers and send gentle hugs your way. A friend of mine had BC and a double mastectomy, about five years ago, with reconstruction, and let me tell you, she looks and feels AWESOME! Amazing what can be done!

My thoughts are with you,

You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I believe you will be fine with the nauseous part, have faith in you anethestist, he probably has a nice cocktail of anti-nausea meds for ya.

Good Luck and take care of yourself real good during the 2 month recovery.

K9 it is great that you are able to have this surgery. Prayers are with you and your docs. Try to concentrate on how great you are going to look after this. tongue
I use to get sick after surgery but haven't after the past two or three so they must be doing something different. I hadn't thought about this til you brought it up, just thought I was getting lucky.

I will be thinking of you during your surgery, and I pray that all goes well. I also hope that you won't vomit (BTW-that condition you have is very interesting-sorry, but medical things interest me). It's easy for me to say, "don't worry," so I'll never say that. Just know that your fibro family will be with you during and after your surgery. yeah Best wishes.

K-9, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.  That anti-nausea medication works great!  A few years ago I suffered several times with partial bowel obstructions and that causes major nausea.  When I got to the hospital they put a medication drip through the IV and the nausea went completely away.  What a relief!  So, try not to think about that.  You will be fine.  The doctors have dealt with all of this before.  Before you know it, you will be up and about and feeling great!

K-9, of course you will be in my prayers and my thoughts. I am also one of those ppl that has a terrible time w/ vomiting after the surgery. Last time they gave me med for it, they felt I would be fine. Yeah! It wasn't pretty. lol. I do hope the cocktail they mix up for you is the ticket.

Focus on how far you have come, how good you will feel when this over. We will be here waiting to hear from you.

Good Luck.   God bless.  Alice.

K9- my prayers are with you, and I know you will do fine! I agree with everyone else- the past 2 surgeries I've had caused NO nausea, I am also pretty frightened by the prospect of that after surgery. We will all be thinking of you during and after the surgery, during healing. Let us know how you are as soon as you are comfortable to be up and typing. Try and rest easy tonight, and know that God is holding you now and always.

K9: Praying for you and your health care providers, that you will feel God's peace throughout the process and will rest comfortably in His arms afterwards. Take extra good care of yourself afterwards, and maybe that fibro flare will stay away!

I'll be seeing you good thoughts for the next few days! I don't fear nausea, sometimes I welcome it to help my stomach get some relief, but I have bad reactions to anesthesia, which makes me throw up terribly.
I hope you get well soon!
