hello Everyone!!
I hope everyone is doing well. I myself am doing ok pain wise, but lately my sleep has been off. I cant sleep at nights, like right now is 1am. I dont fall asleep til like 3 am then I sleep all day til about 3pm, but the thing is, is that then I get so sleepy it's like I feel like someone drugged me. I cant stay awake for the life of me, then all afternoon and evening I'm fighting to stay awake, but as soon as around 9pm hits I feel wide awake like I took some caffiene pills or something, then I get this horrible headache around midnight. I just took some Ibprophin 800mgs and one excedrin tension headache (I dont take the excedrin migraine because my stomach cant handle the asprin in it) but I can only take one cause the caffiene in it will make me too jittery. This all seemed to happen as soon as I started the Lyrica. Do you guys think this may be due to the Lyrica, cause all the info I read on it says nothing about this stuff happening. I asked my neoroligist who prescribed it and she says it doesnt and to continue on it. She has me on the 50mgs at night for fibro and to help control my migraines, but she doesnt want me taking stronger doses cause of the weight gain that can happen with it, and I've already gained too much from when I was taking methadone, I'm at 170lbs which is the most I've ever weighted in my life which depresses me. I really cant continue doing this, I get nothing done, and my kids are getting annoyed at me. thanks for listening.

Meds: Suboxone 8mg 3xday for pain, Cymbalta 60mg @ night for depression & Fibro,
Lyrica @ night for Migraines and Fibro, Treximet as needed for Migraines,
Ventolin Albuterol Inhaler as needed for Asthma Attacks.
Chocolate as needed daily
Been on Diability since I was 22 for Migraines and chronic Pancreatitas but going to college Spring '09 to be a nurse

I don't have your problem but I can imagine how upsetting it could be to your family that you don't have a day life. Have you tried going to sleep a little bit earlier so you can maybe slowly get yourself on a better schedule??? I use to be a night person and would stay up til 1:00, 2:00 in the morning, I liked the peace and quiet of the night. But I wasn't getting enough done during the day cause I would sleep til about 10:00 am and I felt the day was half over when I got up. I finally got my schedule changed and now I go to bed about 10:00 every night and listen to the TV til about 11:00 and get up between 7:00 and 8:00 am. I don't get a full 8 hrs of sleep cause I wake up a few times a night and have to go potty at least once but on those rare occasions when I sleep longer I'm drowsy all day. It's like we can't win for losing when it comes to sleep and fibro. I do take 100 mg of amitriptyline and 1 1/2 mg of xanax at bedtime which helps put me out.
luv and hugs

I was on Lyrica for 6 months and finally went off because of the weight gain. I took Cymbalta for a year and between that and the Lyrica, and also not doing as much as I used to because of the pain...I have gained approx. 65-70 lbs. in the last couple years. I have been so depressed about my weight. I also don't go out much because I am so ashamed of the way I look.
I have had some trouble with terrible swelling in my legs and feet, so my Rheumy ordered me a strong water pill. One of the side effects is loss of appetite, which is great for me! I have lost 6 lbs. in the last week and am starting  to eat healthier. My swelling is finally going down, so I am feeling better for the first time in a long time!
I just wanted to let you know that I understand how you feel. I was so depressed that all I could think of was how much weight I had put on and that I would never be able to lose all of it. I know now that it won't come off overnight, but it can be done. I am taking one day at a time.
I too have alot of trouble with keeping my eyes open during the day. I even have trouble driving, it's like my eyes are so heavy and I am always fighting to keep them open. My Rheumy thinks alot of it is my Fibro & some from meds. When do you take your Lyrica. I always took mine twice a day. One in the morning and one after supper. It could be that you are taking one of your meds too late in the day? I feel better towards evening and like you am wide awake at 10:00. Then I sit up till 2-3 in the morning. I wish I could help you on this, but I haven't figured mine out yet!
My sister is still on Lyrica and Cymbalta for her Fibro. She says she has to take her Cymbalta in the morning because it keeps her up. Just a thought. Everyone is different when it comes to medications. I would bring it up again at your next appointment. Good luck!
Hugs!!  Margie

Hi Kitty!!

Sorry you're having a tough time right now.  I really don't know how I can help except, maybe you should go online and look up "sleep hygiene".  I just looked it up for you and there's lots of advice via a google search.  I think you might need to get yourself out of your current sleep pattern.

I'm one of those folks that was always an early raiser.. even when I was a little kid, I was awake before everyone else.  I'm up with the sun and down with the moon and I'm really grateful for that.  Except during the beginning of winter and summer.

I think you should explain your problem to your doctor, maybe some of the meds your on are giving you this problem.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm concerned about you and hope you can get some help, this must be very difficult for you and your family.

Hi Kitty, I was given that Lyrica 2x. The 2nd time I had such miserable headaches and pains in my head. I asked the dr. who gave it to me if Lyrica could be causing it, he gave me a dismissive smile and said NO. I checked the paper work on the med and headache is one of the side effects. I kept getting the pains every few minutes in addition to the constant headache. I stopped the medicine. My old pcp was annoyed w/ me. She said the med wasn't the prob, YET the headaches stopped after I stopped the med.

Besides checking the paper that should come w/ the medicine, ask your pharmacist about it. S/he would probably know better than the dr what effects you might experience.

I have a hard time w/ sleeping, usually average about 3 hrs. I have a set time to go to bed and I get up early every day. I am not able to take a nap, wish I could. It might help to have set hrs going to bed and up again in the morning. Routines do help us.

Hope you get some rest soon.

God bless.  Alice.

Hi Kitty, I have almost exactly your sleep problem & I am not on Lyrica.  I have insomnia from the Fibro & the sleep from the CFS.  From the beginning of my Fibro I have had lots of trouble with insomnia.  I take cyclobenzaprine 10mg an hour before bed & a melatonin 5mg, sublingual 20 min. before bed.  This, for the most part helps me to sleep, however, when I am flaring nothing helps with the insomnia, I will be up until all hours.  Once I go to sleep, when not flaring, I sleep between 10-12 hours.  I do wake up several times during the night but fall back to sleep after awhile.  Then in the morning, I can't get myself up.  If I do get up too early (like I only get 8 hours of sleep)  I will be so tired all day & then about 9:00p.m.  or so I will wake up & have insomnia for hours & be unable to sleep.  When I finally do go to sleep, I will sleep for 12-15 hours.  I have found I must keep a routine & be dilegent with it.  If I get off it, my whole life becomes trying to get my sleep pattern back in some kind of order.  It's like a pendullum that I am trying to keep somewhat in the center but when my sleep is off, I will swing way over one way & then swing totally the other way.  Oversleeping, insomnia, undersleeping, sleep 15 hours, stay awake for 36 hours & can't sleep, go to sleep & can't get up.  If I let it, it can run my life or lack of life.  So, talk to your Dr about your sleep & maybe try a sleeping pill or melatonin.  What ever helps you get control of this.

This may be the Lyrica, I don't know.  I actually hope it is & you can find some relief by going off it.  Maybe, if it is from the Lyrica your body will adjust with time.  Hugs to you, Denise

Fibro can mess with your sleep. Why don't you ask your doctor for something like Trazadone or Ambien?

You can also get a sleep study to find out if there are other reasons for not sleeping.

Do you exercise during the day? This helps me to sleep well but I do take meds for sleeping also.

Hello Kitty,

I take ambien for sleep and adderall to stay awake. it seems to work pretty well. I could sleep 24/7 though. In fact I did for over a year. It was the pitts.

It could be a combination of your meds too that is causing you to lose sleep at night. But talk about the ambien or another sleep med. And mention that you are sleeping during the day and maybe the doctor will give you something for energy. They are getting slow to prescribe adderall, but there are other medications that could work like provigil or ritalin.

I hope that you get some much needed rest.

Hugs, Karen

I did have sleep problems with Lyrica.  I would sleep okay during the night, but couldn't seem to get awake in the morning.  I walked around feeling sleepy and half drunk all day, and I could lie down and fall asleep at any given time.
I tried it on 2 different occasions, but couldn't handle the "drunk" feeling.
