I got my first reply to the PhD applications I sent out and it was a rejection letter.  I only applied to 3 programs because I cannot move anywhere in the country.  I am not a 24 yr old single student.   I still have two more apps out there and have not heard from either one.   I am trying not to let it get me down, but I feel terrible and cannot focus and get my work done.  I have to do the internship tomorrow morning and teach tomorrow afternoon and I haven't finished my lesson plan or written the quiz. Only 3 students in my department are applying to schools and the other two already got in somewhere.   I feel so sad and rejected.  Blah. sad

Hi Sue,

I am sorry to hear this, but you have two other applications, hopefully the right one will pick you.

Try to relax, and focus on what you are trying to do. Take a few deep breaths and then practice breathing in and out. In through the nose (called smelling the roses) and out through the mouth (called blowing out the candles). This type of breathing really helps you to calm down and focus. You sound like you are getting a little bit distracted with the news that you got today.

Tell yourself what is meant to be, will be. Try to stay in the now, not thinking of the past or the future. Just the moment that you are in.

Remember the breathing to relax you and then keep in the moment. You will get your studying done.

Best wishes,
Hugs, Karen

Sue, I feel for you.  It was only "one" of three so you still have 2 to go, I hope you get good news from one of them very soon.  I know rejection just sucks but let it go & look forward.  Hugs, Denise

Sue, you have two more applications out there.  This place obviously wasn't the right one for you.  You want to be happy wherever you go.  Hope you get some good news soon.

Thanks everyone.  I took a big risk applying to only three programs.  Everyone else applied to several.  But I would rather stay here with my husband than move across the country without him!!!  Thanks for the encouragement.  God will open the door He wants me to go through.
