I have that trouble whenever I have a flare coming on.......even if it is a mild one. I refer to it as "nursing home urine". It reminds me of smells in a nursing home and the urine is even cloudy. There  is absolutely no pain involved when I urinate so it's not an infections. Since I can smell it I aways worry that someone else can smell it too. Weird, huh? This is a facinating disease.

Have you ever been tested for diabetes? Are you urinating more than usual? I'm no doctor, but this is what happened to my mom right before she was dxd as being diabetic. Just a thought. I could very well be wrong, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor about it. :-)
FINALLY dxd with fibro on 06/13/08
Neurontin, Ibuprofen for pain-which doesn't help
Zoloft & methadone (NOT for pain) for sanity-which doesn't help, BTW
Klonopin for anxiety (Guess what?  Doesn't help!)
Aciphex for reflux
Quit smoking 08/29/08 (used Chantix)

I was wondering if it's due to any medications your on, Antibotics can do this, just a thought..
Are you getting enough water? lack of water could do this too...
Hope whatever it is, that it resolves for you soon..

Good Morning Lee Ann,

Are you taking any new vitamins or suppliments?  They can cause strange uninary affects.  I would definatly contact your doc about that especially if you've been borderline w/ diabetes & kidney stones.

Hope everything turns out ok.  Keep us informed.  Oh, and I hope your weather improves quickly!!!

I have a bladder disease so I can't help with this one, my urine always smells. But I really think you should see your doctor. Especially if you start to see any other symptoms.

I know when I eat asparagus, my urine smells like asparagus.  Also, if you are on a very low carb diet you could be in ketosis and that makes the urine have an odor.  Diabetes, vitamin B6, etc. can cause odor, too.  But, I'd sure pass this by my doctor if I were you just to make sure.

I have a similar problem with my bladder and pee. It started with me and one of my doctors noticing my pee smelled very strong sometimes. It was also a very dark color and i wasnt taking any antibiotics or vitamins at the time. Then i started having symptoms of having to go pee very frequently and feeling like sometimes i didnt get the normal "urge" to go pee but just felt pressure and discomfort in my bladder area. Also, when i peed my pee would come out really slowly and it sometimes would take a couple seconds to get the stream started. I havent seen a doctor about it specifically yet, and have been tested negative for bladder infections so im not sure whats going on. If you find any answers for yours id love to hear. I heard that some people have a bladder condition called interstitial cystitis which you might want to read more about or look into.

It is possible that you can have an infection that will not show up on the dip stick if you have interstitial cystitis. I used to be hurting and having symptoms as you are describing Hurtinginaz. The infection was inside the wall of the bladder.

If you have to have referrals to see a urologist, I strongly urge you to get one. The symptoms you are describing are not good. An infection in the bladder can quickly go to the kidneys.

I have had bladder infections and IC since I was born. I have pin holes in my bladder and the infection inbeds in the wall not inside the bladder.

The sweet smell can indicate diabetes. If you dr. is blowing off the borderline numbers, then you might want to get a second opinion. The bad smells can be from foods you have had that are not getting cleared from your system very well. Asparagus is a good kidney cleaner veggie. Lots of water. Sodas are bad for your kidneys, but if you can't get the cranberry juice down any other way, mix it 1/2 with 1/2 of sprite or 7 up. It makes it similar to a spritzer.
