Hey everyone.... I am very new to this, and could REALLY use some advice please!

I was diagnosed with celiac disease (an auto-immune condition) about 2 years, which triggered during my first pregnancy. I ended up pretty much diagnosing myself in the end (although my toddler was later diagnosed, as well), because no one would listen to me. I have had TONS of residual bone, muscle and joint pain since going gluten-free... symptoms that never resolved, and have kept bothering me (to the point where I stopped by job as a fitness instructor recently).

Now I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second baby, and couldn't feel worse. I have had aching, restless legs and tons of muscle well as unbelievable fatigue. Most recently I have started having unbearable pain in my "girl area", which has only gotten worse and worse (we're talking PAIN). At first I thought maybe the baby was too low (she isn't), then it got so bad I thought for sure I was dilating or my water break (it's not)... The midwives told me today that nothing is really that wrong, so she doesn't know why I'm in pain- she dropped the word fibromyalgia mildly, but didn't really give me any advice or reassurance on anything.

This is not "stretching ligaments" or "it's the second baby" pain- this is "out-of-this world, can barely walk at night" kind of pain. I am young (22), extremely fit (former ballerina and fitness teacher...I still teach dance to date), and have dealt with tons of pain in my life without much complaining. I just can't seem to function through this kind of pain....

I can barely walk around because of the pain... can barely go to the bathroom... oi ve! My husband and I have thought "fibromyalgia" before (with my muscle/joint pain), and we also know it can be linked with celiac disease... I have NO other idea for why I feel like this. I can't function anymore, and all I want to do is cry!

Has anyone else had a similar experience....felt this way.... anything? Thanks a ton!

I am very fimilar with celiac you need to get to a specialist with this being you are pregnant Im not talking a dr around the corner I mean one that is affiliated with a bigger hospital. I have had a friend with celiac and it is not something that you can just not eat gluten with it comes with alot of other issues and with the pain you are experiencing. have you been to a dr. not just a midwife have you had an ultra sound and an exam... I really would encourage you to get to a dr if you have not been.

My fibro flared during pregnancy. My hips burned day and night. I felt miserable when I walked. If I had know I had fibro, I might have done things differently.

I had a two year old at the time and was exhausted. I would have not felt guilty resting. I would have tried to manage the pain batter. However, very little was known about this condition in the 80s.

Please take care of yourself. A pool might be a nice place for you to exercise and get some relief. Talk to your doctors about this.

Tale care,

Thank you for your advice. Yes, I definitely have a hard time resting (because of my almost 3 year old), but lately my body isn't giving me a choice (because it hurts so badly). But I still feel so guilty....
I do have a doctor now in terms of celiac, and have that under control- I even run a celiac support group in my area.... but it was SO hard finding out what was wrong, and now I feel like I'm right back in that place again with all of this pain.
So I'm appreciative of any advice or "I've been there"'s I can get...

Hi littleOOblondie,

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. I felt horrible with my first child.........a girl, but not with my second child, a boy. I've always wondered if FMS is connected somehow to our hormones, and having a girl somehow made it worse?
I had so much stiffness that I could hardly walk. I would have to pull on my pant leg to get my legs into the car. I could barely get out of bed in the mornings. I was so sick all the time.
I didn't have the perineal-area pain that you mentioned. Lots of growth seems to start happening around 20 weeks, so maybe something is just stretching, and with your possible FMS, it feels so much worse?
Fortunately, my daughter was never at risk during pregnancy, but I sure thought I would die! Where exactly do you think your pain is coming from?
Just make sure you're seeing the right doc for all this pain. Hopefully it will subside soon.
You have my sympathy/empathy in feeling so bad, but yet having to take care of another little one. Good luck to you!

P.S. There's something some women with FMS get, called Vulvadynia. It sounds like that's what you have. Google it and see what you think.

Hi, and welcome!  I've never heard of that type of pain before.  I hope you see you gynocologist about this just to make sure.  It could just be pressure from the baby but I know I'd want to find out for sure.  Please let us know what you do find out.  We really do care.
