I'm also new here ! cry I've been reading the posts and can't believe the amounts of compassion I see displayed here for fellow posters. Amazing and beautiful to witness this. turn Sister/Brother, can you spare a free ear for me ??... After struggling with alcohol addiction for ten years I'm truly blessed to have made it through rehabs/detoxs. three times to be able to begin to pull myself up out of the nightmarish, lonely and nearly deadly rock bottom I've been living in. While in the last Detox.,July-2008 I awoke one am. with a knifelike, grabbing back pain and could barely get up out of the bed. Motrin and tylenol became my best friends for quite a while. After looking back at my past health issues,I wonder if I've had it all along !. My rheumatoid arthritis Md.did'nt want to put me through all the dx. tests when I saw her, because I did'nt have any health ins. at the time.Does anyone have any advice? I'm sorry this is sooooooo long....Should I see a neurologist.? FM.,is really much more than muscle pain and fatigue......I now have insurance and don't want my new job to know about all my health issues right now..

Go for a reumatologist if you can get the referral. Congrats on concurring your addictions. I don't think jobs can access your health records without your knowledge. The Health insurance privacy law thing, I think don't quote me. Good luck and keep us updated. Also check out the Fibro 101 link, lots of great info.

Spicey, welcome, it is nice to meet you.  It sounds like you have had a hard time of it, I want to congratulate you on making it through detox & rehab & coming out the other side.  I know acheiving & maintaining sobriety can be hard & there are many slippery places, as you have already found.  Illness is another slippery place & this illness comes with depression.  Are you on an antidepressant?   I am glad you have found this forum because you can come here & vent, cry, yell, laugh & smile.  You will find many friends here & a safe place to fall when you need it.  Knowledge is power with this illness of Fibro.  Read all you can.  Come often, I am looking forward to getting to know you.  Hugs, Denise

LOL.. I already welcomed you in a previous post .. about eye pain. But I'll welcome you again.. :)
If you can get a referral to a rheumy go for it!!! I don't think your new employer will have a problem with you going to any doctor. Neurologists don't really handle this issue as well as rheumys do.
Big high Fives on your detox!!! Good for you!!! You might want to google fibromyalgia symptoms, if you haven't already. I saw somewhere in cyberspace that people who had some addiction problems are in the critiria for Fibro. I also read that those who are survivors of domestic abuse are more likely to develope fibro!
Anyway... please stick around and enjoy the forum/family. We really DO care and look forward to helping eachother.

Hi Spicey and welcome. Check out the fibro 101 thread and what else could it be. There are other illnesses that have to be elimanated before you can get a dx of fibro. I'm so happy you have ins now and can get these test done. Many go to a rheumy but my GP did most of my testing.
Good luck and you have found a great group of people.
luv and hugs

Hi, Spicey, and welcome!  I'm so glad you found us and joined it.  The Fibro 101 thread is the second thread on the forum.  There are good links to info about fibromyalgia in that thread.
It is important to rule out other illnesses first, as Marlee said.  Many do use a rheumatologist but I have a board certified Internist that is my doctor and I'm very happy with him.  You do need a doctor that believes in fibromyalgia, though.  There are doctors out there that still don't believe it is a real illness...even some rheumatologists.  So, when trying to find a doctor, ask if they treat patients with fibromyalgia.  That is important.  Otherwise you will hear the "It's all in your head" line!  GRRRR
Read back posts and ask questions.  We are here to help you.  I'll be looking forward to hearing more from you soon.
