I am so glad to hear that someone else feels brain dead like me sometimes .lol..(.about forgetting things.).. I want to know if anyone has had a steroid shot for flare ups? I had bronchitis about 8 weeks ago and my dr. gave me a steroid shot and that same day I also was in a bad flareup with my fibro. He was so compassionate to me and wanted to help me,but of course , theres nothing he can do, and he felt so bad for me........but he said the shot would help me with my flareup. What I would like to know is , has anybody taken those shots and felt better for months after?....I still have pain everyday, but since the shot I havent had a bad flareup.....yet.. I know its coming ,and I dread it, but this has never happened before. any comments? please ????????? ..thanks

Hi Mammaw and welcome. I have only had steroid injections into my knee and shoulder joints for inflammation issues. Since fibro is not considered an inflammatory problem technically steroids shouldn't help with a flare. Myself, I believe anytime you have a problem with your body such as an injury or illness, it increases your fibro symptoms. The steroids probably helped your bronchitis which in turn maybe helped decrease the flare brought on by the illness. I do know from what my doctors have told me that sometimes meds that "shouldn't" work for a particular situation actually do and they don't understand why so maybe steroid injections could help you more long term. Just remember that steroids do come with their own set of problems and side effects. Good luck and let us know if you do take anymore for fibro and what happens.  yeah    Lisa

Watch out!!! Before I was DX, I was given several rounds of steroid treatments for pain and it would go away then come back the minute I completed the cycle. I also experience severe mood swings and rage. I've never had a shot for it but I would assume that it works the same way. Several months ago, I was reading a magazine article about Fibro and it gave similarities and differences between RA and FM, including treatments. It specifically stated that steroids are not good for FM treatments, of course I cannot remember why so you may want to do some research. In the mean time, enjoy feeling better but know that the pain will return, so be ready for it.

Cindy is correct. Steroid injections are not indicated for the treatment of fibro. They may help other conditions that are contributing to your pain but they won't do anything for your fibro symptoms.
