Hi all.  I'm a 29 year old male.  I've been working out consistently for the last 3 years.  3-4 weeks ago, I went to do chest press, and was unable to lift the amount of weight that I usually do.  I just figured they changed the pulleys out on the machine, or something was wrong with it, as my arm felt fine.  I moved onto the next machine and had the same problem.  By the end of the workout, I realized there was something strange about my left shoulder.  It felt a bit numb.  I've had episodes in the past where I end up with spasms in my neck and back that send me to the emergency room.  I just figured it was one of these episodes coming on.  There was a spot on my back that was really sore, then I noticed if I touched part of my shoulder, it was very tender and painful.  For the next 3-4 days I had trouble sleeping because of shoulder pain.  The tenderness went away quickly (in a day or two), but there was still internal pain.  My left shoulder, tricep, bicep, and side were twitching frequently.  At this point, I figured I'd pulled a muscle or something.  I started taking muscle relaxers.  A week or two later, the pain was gone and most all the twitching, but the muscles in that arm were tired.  Later, I developed a twitch in my left eye that was almost constant.  This has been going on for over a week.  Over the last few days, I've had twitches on both sides of my body...not constant twitches, just here and there (both thighs, biceps, stomach, etc..  Despite all the twitching, my arm felt like it was almost back to normal, but today it is tired again.  I have a history with TMJ and stomach issues, so that is why I'm wondering if Fibro is the cause.  I also have low vitamin d levels.  about 10 years ago, I had some TMJ episodes where I could hardly move my head.  about 2 years ago, I had spasms all in my back and neck, and could hardly move at all because of the pain.  Anytime I moved I would get shooting pains down my neck and back.  I had another episode just like that one about 2 months ago.  Both of these episodes lasted about a week or two and began with what felt like a crick in my neck.  The current issue is different from all of those in the past, so I can't be certain they are even related.  I have never had so much twitching or tired muscles like this before.  Most people with fibro say they feel like they have the flu and ache all over, but I don't feel that way, so I'm not sure.  I do feel foggy, but I've always been that way:)
I have an appointment set up with a neurologist, but I figured I'd ask you guys in the meantime, and see if this sounds similar to anyone else's story.  Thanks so much for any feedback.

Hi Rob,

Welcome to our group.

First off you are headed in the right direction seeking a neurologist. It is just so difficult to answer you with the myriad of symptoms you have. I answered b/c I have the twitches, fasciculations, in my calf muscles. Now I went through the entire battery of tests to rule out any serious problem. I have had them for over a year and apparently they are benign. Just revisited the neuro to recheck. The TMJ, low D and stomach all fit with Fibro.

Let us know what the neurologist says.

Hi Rob, and welcome.  The symptoms of fibro are so many and so varied that no two people experience it the same. Like Patsie though, I too go through periods where I have tons of muscle spasms, twitches, and fasiculations (all benign for me also). Many of the symptoms you've described could be attributed to fibro, but of course, it is wise to see the neurologist and get a proper diagnosis.
Keep us posted.

Hi, Rob, and welcome!  Yes, these sound like fibro symptoms BUT there are several illnesses that have the same symptoms.  It's important to have tests run to rule out the other illnesses.  Then you will definitely know it's fibro.

Check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  You will find links to good info about fibro including one called What Else Could It Be.  You will learn a lot and this could help you ask good questions when you see your doctor.

Many with fibro use a rheumatologist.  I use a board certified Internist.  I see you are going to see a neurologist and some see them, too.  Just make sure your doctor believes in fibromyalgia.  There are still some out there that don't.

I'm so glad you found us and joined it.  Please let us know how your appointment goes and what you find out.  Don't hesitate to ask questions, too.  We are here for that reason!  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi there Rob!!

Just wanted to pop in and say welcome to the Forum!!!  This is a great place to learn more about Fibro.

Sherrine, one of our awesome moderators, has given you some great advice, along with the rest of the folks that you've met already!!

I can totally relate to that eye twitch thing.. WOW can that be annoying.. I had it so bad at one time and it lasted for what felt like forever, it gave me a headache that wouldn't quit.  Fasciculations is really annoying and can turn into a painful spasm after a while.

I really hope you don't have fibro, but only your doctor can tell for sure.  If you have the energy and strength to work out alot you might not, it could be a bunch of other things.. sometime stress can create some simalar symptoms.

Good luck at the doctor and let us know how you're doing.

Hi Rob and Welcome!

Sounds like alot of fibro symptoms, I too get the muscle twitches on and off. When I first got fibro, every muscle in my body was twitching from head to toe and it lasted for about 3 months. Now its once in awhile, thank god because that was SO annoying!

Nice to meet you and let us know how your appt. goes with the neurologist-

Thanks for all the great information.  I'm glad there are people who can relate to all of this.  Yes, the twitching is very annoying.  It's even started in the other eye!  Oh well.  Does anyone know if fibro can cause abnormal emg re****s?  Just curious, because I'm guessing that will be one of the tests they do.  Thanks again!
