No pain meds for Fibro? Is this new? I have been banging my head against this wall as long as I have had Fibro, after it was diagnosed, I mean. The equation is simple. Follow the money. How much does Lyrica cost? Percocet has been around since the beginning of time. It is cheap as dirt. Groups, HMO's etc. are told what to prescribe by legislators who are not doctors but politicians influenced by lobbyists whom are paid to influence legislation on behalf of hugh conglomerates. Do you have any idea what percentage of the GNP is made up of pharmaceutical company profits, 20, 25, 30 %. Find a doctor who either has pain or understands pain. My doc doesn't believe in Fibro either but he understands pain (Rheumatoid Arthritis, you can see it in his hands), and as long as I stay within his protocol, 8 tylenol 30 mgs. per day, he is very kind this way. I could have MS, Cancer, anything else going on, no matter, he isn't particularly interested, but when I present my empty bottle, and the dates make sense, he prescribes my medicine. It's always going to be a trade-off. I wouldn't change it for the world. I am an in the here and now person, not an immediate gratification person, but I live in the here and now. And if in the here and now, I am in horrible pain, well does anything else matter. That is not a life. Interview doctors, ask them directly if they understand Fibro and what their approach to treatment is. Take documentation. I have a complete set of my medical records up to the time of my being struck by a truck in 2002, plus what immediately followed. I take it to all my doctors on the first appt. One look at the sheer volumn of paper, and pointing out the injuries which spun me from a functional fibromite to a barely functioning fibromite, is enough for some docs. If you don't have this kind of amunition, keep a journal. Write out all the dx's and treatments with commentary about how it went. And, most of all, good luck, persistence, and strength to keep going, to you.
