Hi everyone,

I really had a great rheumatologist, who understood fibro very well, and gave me the appropriate meds. I now need to find a new rheumy, as we moved to Michigan from Wisconsin. I'm scared to even look for a doc, because I was spoiled rotten with my old one, and have heard all the horror stories here about bad doctors. Does anyone out there have a good doctor like I had? I'm really fearful about this. confused

Can your old rheumy recommend someone in Michigan? or call around for you to find a new doc with similiar treatment plans?
Just an idea.

We just discussed how to get a new doctor but you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the subject!  Sooo, here is the link.  This will help you, I think!  Let us know what happens.

Well, I went on a doctor hunt today now that my hubby's ins went into effect. The first clinic that I called, does not accept ANY patients with the DX of fibromyalgia. I was so hurt.....I guess they just don't care about fibro people.

Any rheumy's that I called said I need a primary care doctor before they will treat. But if no one takes fibro patients...then what? I feel like I doomed to just "handle it" on my own. I can see that there was much better care in the state of WI than in MI. I had reason to be afraid.

I don't think you are giving them a chance.  From your post, you only called two doctors, one of which was a specialist and needs referrals.  Some doctors either don't know a lot about fibro or don't believe it is a real illness.  It's good that they tell you that up front instead of signing up for them and then finding out.  I'm sure you will find a good doctor.  There are lots of them out there.  I know I have a wonderful doctor.  Besides, you usually don't hear about the good doctors but you sure hear about the crummy ones!  smilewinkgrin    So, take heart.  I'm sure you will find a good doctor in Michigan.

After much calling, I was able to find an internist. I have to have him before I can make an appointment with a rheumatologist. My appt with the internist is June 25th. I thought that was pretty good. I have no idea what this doctor is like at all...just that he's on my insurance. I'm hoping for the best. I still am shocked that there are some primary care doctors who won't accept a patient with fibro. I didn't know they could do this....but as was said, it's good to know up front how they feel about fibro patients.
