What do you take for your migraines?  Tylenol and Advil just don't work for me, so my Dr has put me on 400mg of vitamin B2.  He had originally suggested Tylenol 3, which isn't an option because I need to be alert at work.  The only other thing he could suggest for me that wouldn't make me super dopey was some medication that slows down the heart rate in people with high blood pressure (I forget the name!).  There must be more than that that could help...

I am on topamax. I also have a rx for a shot - Imitrex -  that I can give myself at home.  I am on a very low dose of Topamax which I am now increasing since I have started having a few migraines again.  I am lucky that I didn't really have any side effects from the topamax other than I can't really drink anything carbonated anymore - it gives me a burning feeling in my mouth and throat.  Beer tastes horrible too - besides the burn.

I take Topamax as well but for bipolar. I've had migraines since age 13 and have tried many, many things. Of course, reducing stress helps a lot - but barring that not much helped until about six years ago when I found out that certain foods were triggering my migraines. I avoided them and my migraines dropped significantly - from about four or six a month to maybe four a year. I nearly had my migraines under control when my doctor prescribed the Topamax for the bipolar so I can't say whether it helped or not. I still get them from time to time under high stress conditions.

I've heard good things about Imitrex...

I have been fighting with severe migraines since I had my daughter when I was 18 years old, and for 8 years I couldnt find anything to help. but since I've started the Cymbalta and a low dose Lyrica, my migraines have reduced ALOT. I use to get migraines several times a month, and now I get one about every 2-3 months, and where they use to be a 9-10 on a pain scale, they're now about 3-4, and if I take my imitrex fast enough, they last no more then a half an hour. And I have tried just about every migraines preventer out there, and diffrent combinations, and the Cymbalta with lyrica has been the best. It's alot of trial and error to find a right med or meds to help, just dont give up when the first few fail.
