My husband is disabled, as many of you know, due to an oil rig accident 3 yrs ago. 68 tons of pipe crushed his left leg from ankle to knee and he just had his 20th surgery last month. Yesterday we finally got in for his post op, his leg is doing well, the vancomyacin and levaquin have kept his MRSA under control. We will be going back to his osteo surgeon next month, at which time we'll be scheduling another surgery to do another bone graft from his hip this time. And the best news, he should be walking by the time the year is over!!!!!
They had done done a bone graft about
a year ago, but the rod and pins that were in there, had been rejected and were holding the infection and it had
opened up after 3 weeks, and then the necrosis set in, we were so afraid that he would lose his leg if not his life because of all this.
His doctor also relented and is letting us do his IV and dressing changes at home, only because Cav (hubby) fell down the steps trying to get to the van. Cav's not a small man, 5'11, 215lbs and I'm 4'11, 94lbs like I could do much more than offer emotional support after this fall LOL
A 3 hr drive there and back has me aching all over, like someone beat me with a baseball bat, but when I think of everything good that came out of that appt, I don't mind so much.
Any idiot can face a crisis - it's day to day living that wears you out.
