I don't know if anyone noticed that I have been MIA lately, but if you did, I just want to apologize for not checking in like I usually do. I took a "job" babysitting my nieces (ages 8 & 10) for the summer. It is both exhausting & stressful, and it's running me down a lot. Besides a little bit of a long drive, I have to be up at 6AM and my sister usually doesn't get home from work until 5:30PM. My days are filled with bickering kids, driving in a car with no A/C, and constant calls from my sister & my BIL. BTW-did I mention the bickering kids? tongue And why do kids lie? I want to die laughing when they think they can pull that crap with me. I'm a recovering addict. You can't BS a BSer! nono

On Friday, we had a picnic and went swimming with the girl's "Mimi" (AKA Grandmother). I had so much fun-until I realized that I was burnt to a crisp. Apparently I was stupid enough to think that my sunscreen was waterproof! eyes BTW-I may need to mention that I am Irish & English, which means that I am so white that I'm almost clear, LOL. So, now I am the beautiful shade of fire engine red! I Googled sun poisoning, and I'm pretty sure that I have it. I probably should have gone to the ER (I have a few blisters, I was vomiting, and my temp got as high as 102), but since I don't have insurance, I decided to tough it out. BTW-does anyone know how badly sunburn hurts? cry

So, that's where I've been while I was MIA. I will probably be a little MIA for the whole summer. But, I promise to check in a little more often than I have been. I hope everyone is doing well. I love y'all! yeah

Oh girl - take care of yourself! Babysitting, wow! Does your sister know how these girls are treating you...and each other? I think I would let her in on it if you haven't already.

Sorry you toughed it out with the sunburn. You probably would have been given some pain meds. Hope you feel better soon. Hang in there.

I wondered where you went.  I think I remember that you are a Cubs fan (I think).  I'm originally from St. Louis where the great Cardinals play tongue .
I'm sorry you are having such a tough time.  Babysitting.  Wow I haven't done that in decades.  It would exhaust a  really well person.  My kids were all blue eyed towheads and 2 of them got really bad sunburns on 2 different occasions.  This is when they were 13-14 years old and did not need to listen to stupid mom anymore.  Very, very sick.  Actually they cried.  I know they were in great pain. I found that aloe helped a little when gently put on their skin.  I had a big aloe plant that I used.  Both of them have used sunscreen ever since.
I hope that the rest of your summer goes better.  Do you think the kids will get tired of their bickering??  Can you just somehow walk away from them when they start.  They're probably trying to annoy you-the little stinkers. devil
Hope you feel better soon.

Oh, Kelly, Yes I did notice you were away for a bit, so are a few others (hope they are doing alright!).  I was thinking about you yesterday as a matter of fact, I guess your ears were burning - aside from the sunburn.

I have that Irish skin going on here, too. From a family of redheads, no less. I try very hard to remember sunscreen, but alas, my rememberer is broken. I had some horrific burns as a child, a teen, young adult, etc. One thing my mother use to do is blot my burn w/ a freshly brewed tea bag. The tanic acid is supposed to help. She was always making fresh Iced Tea, so we always had 'fresh' boiled bags to use on my body. Now I make sure I use Noxzema. My younger son burns On Purpose then says MOM, HELP! I have to slather the Noxzema on his back. It helps to moisturize burning, painful flesh. I hope something will help you. Pls be careful next time, I worry about the permanent damage to you. I'm sorry, that is just the Mom in me coming out. yeah

My father's mother was called MIMI, and my children called their pat G'ma MIMI. I love that name, always makes me smile.

Babysitting, Bless your heart - you are a strong woman. My money is on you, hope it stays fun for you and the girls. Hope you have a great summer, KIT when you can.

God bless.  Alice.

Thanks for making sure I'm OK. Alice, I don't mind at all that the "mom" is coming out. That means that you care, so it means a lot to me. :-) Puppylover, yes, I am a die hard Cubs fan-even though they aren't doing the greatest right now (although 3 walk offs in a row ain't too bad, LOL). You have to be loyal to be a Cub fan! yeah

Yeah, babysitting 2 girls is hard. They remind me of my sister and me-they are only 19 months apart and my sister and I are 20 months apart. Anyway, besides being a very stressful, energy draining job, I made the stupid mistake of accepting the job for $75 a week. That's $15 a day and less than $2 an hour! I spend nearly $30 a week filling up my car with gas! BTW-you don't need to tell me, I know I got screwed. mad I would totally quit the "job," but I'd feel guilty about the girls. I really think that I am a positive influence (my sister isn't the most open minded person). rolleyes

My sunburn is still pretty bad. My face is already starting to peel, so I feel like a snake (not to mention that it's so attractive! smilewinkgrin The only good thing about all this is that I wore a T-shirt in the pool, cause my bathing suit didn't have the greatest support in the chest region. I guess that having enormous boobs can come in handy on occasion, LOL! tongue

Hi, Stranger!  I did wonder where you were off too.  I thought you were running around having a great time with some new guy.   yeah

Casey, that happened to me one summer.  I was so blistered and really couldn't stand even clothing touching my skin.  But, I had to wear something!  I kept Solarcaine on me and that helped a lot.  You do need to stay completely out of the sun until it heal...probably a week or so.  I'm sorry that that happened to you, too.

You definitely are being taken advantaged of.  My daughter earned that much when she was a teenager 20 years ago and she didn't have to buy gas because she wasn't even old enough to drive yet!  Can you ask for more money now...especially because you have to spend so much on gas?  If not, don't take them anyplace.  If you have to go to their house, have your sister pick you up, if she won't give you more for gasoline.  That's not going to get any cheaper any time soon and could be a whole lot more expensive in weeks to come.  I know I'd talk to her if I were you.  She'd NEVER find anyone to watch the girls for that price!

I hope you feel better soon.

Casey, I did miss you. Let's see, do I know how bad a sunburn can be? UUUUHHHH, Yeah! Sunscreen wasn't invented until I was 18. I have always had red hair, and pasty skin where there are no freckles. My dad used to try to keep me inside all summer when I was a kid. Is that fair? Anyway, I have been a very faithful sunscreen wearer for many years. Aloe is good for a sunburn and when your skin starts to itch like mad, put vaseline on it. Diane
