Hello All. Well i am 20 years old and i'm pretty sure i have Costochondritis. I dont even really know what this is, but i googled the pains i was having and Costo is all the symptoms. I've read many posts on this and i have all the same pains. Just about a year ago i fell out the back of a truck and fell on my left side. shortly following i've had horrible pains in my chest. I have gone to the ER 2 times and they've done blood work on me and everything looks great, they've done an EKG and my heart is great, but the thing i worried about so much is lung cancer since i was a smoker, and have had family die from it, this pain scarred me enough to quite. But anywho...i've gone to Chiropractors, they dont help, i've gotten many different opinions on my pain and one Dr. told me i'm just suffering from Anxiety, which i may, but its just getting so hard. I have a constant pain and another Dr. said i could have separated the cartolage in my ribs. but i just dont know. I have pain in the left ribs, and sometimes in my right. i get a burning pain in between my shoulder blades too! I've had many emotional break downs over this and i'm about to get married in August and i dont know how much more my fiance can take of this. someone please give me some advise.

Hi, Neller, and welcome!  I have costochondritis and it is painful.  Usually if you are having problems, the breast bone is tender if you push on it.  The ribs hurt and go around to my back.  My doctor has me take ibuprofen with food and that does help with the pain.

The pain between the shoulder blades is usually a symptom of fibromyalgia but you could have just pulled the muscle, too.  You need to stretch those muscles.  Try bending at the waist, letting your arms hang free and then start swinging your arms back and forth or in circles...any which way!  That exercise stretches the muscles between your shoulder blades.

Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro including a list of symptoms and also gentle stretching exercises that really do work.  You might see yourself in those symptoms.

I'm so glad you found us and joined in.  Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you.  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi Neller and welcome. You didn't say if they have done x-rays of your ribs front and back??? My breastbone stays tender to the touch. I don't know if it is costochrondritis or just part of fibro.
Glad you joined us and hope they find out what is going on.
luv and hugs
