Hello all,

I've been lurking for a couple weeks (since being diagnosed and told about the site by a friend), so thought I might actually post a hello.

Have had fibro for probably 3+ years, but only this year decided to actually keep on my doctor to find what was wrong with me. You all know the drill.

Anyway, she has me on Pristiq (after Cymbalta and Amytriptiline failed to do anything positive), magnesium/malic acid, B12 and vitamin D.

I've been taking all of this for almost a month. The Pristiq does seem to be helping me sleep marginally better, but that's the only improvement at all. (It also makes me not care about food. Get hungry, nothing sounds good. Yay.)

How long should it take for vitamins, etc to "work"? At what point should I return to my doctor and tell her the Mag, B12 and D do nothing for me?

Hi Akjak,

Welcome to the fibromyalgia forum of Healing Well. So glad you decided to post at long last!!

I personally have not tried the magnesium/malic acid combination, so I don't know how long you have to give it, but as a general rule of thumb, I think a month is long enough. You did say you were on it a month and it did nothing for you, right?? Might be time to have a chat with the doctor again.

By the way, good luck with the Pristiq. My youngest daughter is now on that and so is a good friend of mine. The friend is still waiting for the full effect to kick in and my daughter states good results so far, so I wish you lots and lots of luck.

Anyway, keep posting and let us get to know you. My name is Linda and I have been around for about three years now. I have had fibro for over 28 years and find it very painful to live with lately.

Anyway, I love this network and the people here. They are all wonderful and have a very caring heart. So, Welcome and enjoy the family atmosphere!!

God's blessings.

I am taking Vit-D and B-complex, and an all purpose vitamine. I have my good days and bad but the bad are getting a little easier to handle. So they are working for me.

Hi akjak and welcome. I couldn't take the malic acid/magnesium combo due to gastritis. My B12 and magnesium came back normal but my D is low. I was taking 1600 IU of D a day and after a couple of weeks felt a motivation I hadn't felt in several years and a little more energy. Vit D is good for depression so I think it was helping me with that even though I'm on two anti-depressants. Sadly the D also caused gastritis and after several tries of different doses I have had to go off of it and I'm right back where I was before I started taking it, bummer. But my GP and rheumy are working together to see if I can have a vit D and calcium infusion. They have the once a year calcium infusion for osteoporosis on the market but I can't remember the name of it. So I am hoping they figure out a way to get the D in me cause I so need it and it really made a difference in the way I felt.
I hope everything your on makes a difference in the way you feel.
luv and hugs
