Should we be getting regular screenings?

Before my diagnosis of fibro, I got tested so many times for other conditions. I was mostly tested for lyme disease over and over again but also got tested for other things as well such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Those tests would always come back negative, but now that I have my fibro diagnosis, if I actually developed one of these other conditions, I'd probably just dismiss it as fibro symptoms and not get treated for it. So do you guys think we should be regularly screened for other various conditions that have similar symptoms to fibro just in case?

I have wondered that myself but because we lost our health insurance when we moved to NY, I don't get regular screenings for anything.  I had all the tests...they came back negative and I was dx'd with fibro.  Other than the usual blood work that they do in a physical, I haven't had a sed rate, RA factor or ANA done in fifteen years.  They are about $1000 a piece.  I just chalk every new symptom to fibro and figure that when my Rheumy looks me over and doesn't see any obvious signs of something else (like red, swollen joints, weak reflexes or abnormal co-ordination etc) I'll just blame good ole fibro.  I've never been tested for Lyme, and probably never will be. all I keep saying!

Kythe, any time I have a new symptom come up that I have any doubts about I always bring it to the attention of my doc. Just cause we have fibro doesn't mean we are immune to anything else. I have regular blood work done, I see my GP every three months and rheumy about every six  months so I hope if anything else pops up one of them will catch it. I can't say that I have gone through all the screening that I did before being dxd with fibro though.

I don't get regular screening either.  If I developed one of the other illnesses, I'd be having more symptoms....things I never had before....and I would definitely tell my doctor about it.  Just have a good relationship with your doctor and you should be fine.
