Hey everyone, hope you all are doing ok. I need your help because no one knows this crud the way you guys do. I am on week 3 now with a nasty head cold/chest cold. Here is a brief hx of the past couple of weeks- On a Friday I hung out at a friends house and got lots of little ankle bites from these nasty flies that looked like mini horse flies; the day after that I spent the afternoon outside at an art festival, it was weird MN hot/humid. That night the bug bites itched like mad and the next day [sunday] a started with a sore throat and scratchy sinus. Each day I got worse, sore throat, packed sinuses, headache, major bodyaches, fever, horrid chest congestion and cough that feels like I am gonna cough up an elbow. Day 9 I thought fever had broken, day 10 felt a little better, day 11 everything crashed and I ended up [again] in the ER where I had to be brought in by ambulance [first trip of that kind]. High fever [for me, it was mid 101], BP was so low I could not believe it when I read it later on the reports, dehydration was worse than its ever been. Did a 5 day course of antibiotics 1000mg day, still have lowgrade fever [99.5-100], body aches are reduced thanks to percocet and more hydration. Still have this horrid cough- cough doesn't even adequately describe what happens when I try to get a deep breath, big hurt! ER docs said sinusitis and uti, didn't think anything of the bug bites. Also I have insane ringing in my ears that makes it hard to hear the world and it feels like a giant bubble is sitting on my ears. Some minor earpain. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be happening, what I can try, what you suggest? I am so frustrated and discouraged. Before this hit I was doing so well, too. Taking good care of myself, taking meds regularly, on vitamins/supplements timely. I'm lost and need anything you can give me. Have a doc appt tomorrow to followup and I'm nervous, these things don't usually help, but I am desperate for someone to try and find a thread and start pulling. Thanks for listening, as always you guys are amazing.

Oh Sera, you poor thing. Just keep taking good care of yourself. Plenty of fluids and all that. Rest as much as possible. I'll say a prayer for you.

Sera, I had a bug of some kind for two weeks. I also was having all kinds of digestive issues and coudn't tell what was causing what but I had the cough that made me feel like all my ribs were broken. I started using Zicam right away which I think helped some.
I hope you get better soon.
luv and hugs

I'm not a doctor but it sounds like a virus to me since you still have fever after all the antibiotics.  Antibiotics only help bacterial infections, I believe.
Sinusitis can cause the hearing problems.  What you are describing is what I have all the time.  When my sinuses act up, it's worse.  It's like you have your fingers in your ears when you try to hear and your head feels full.  That's because fluid has backed up in your ears and is causing this.  As the virus works it's way out, you will be feeling better and your ears should clear up.
I had the flu one time and I could barely make it to the bathroom...I was that weak.  Of course I had the coughing and took Mucinex for that and I also took Zicam, like Marlee did.  But, it did hang on for 10 days before I started feeling better.
So, I hope you are feeling better soon.  Try not to worry.  You have been checked out and they are taking care of  you the best they can.

Ok so I did make the dreaded appointment with the doctor who thinks he is looking at car parts on an assembly line and passing them for inspection. I am so argonated right now I could snark. My horrid experiences at the ER were a total waste of time, which I knew would be and tried to tell people that. So their little antibiotic pill didn't work because it was not the right kind. They knew I was allergic to penicillan so they gave me a derivative of it anyway. So it did nothing but make me worse. *sNArk* There is more argonation to spew but I think I will leave it alone, and tell you I am on a new antibiotic, new to me, levaquin. Also he wants me to take 8 ES Tylenol and 12 advil each day for 3 days to bring the fever down. Although he "knows" from my chart that I am sure he "read" that advil is not tolerated in my system. I'll let you know if I make any progress.
