I have had this for some time. One day it is fine, the next the pain is awful. I get it alot after sports activity on either side of breast bone. Ice or heat works for a while, advil helps some. I have tried stretching, weights to build up, and nothign is a "cure all". Does anyone have any ideas as to what will finally get rid of this? It hurts to the touch when it is at it's worst.
I had this when I was much younger but not to this degree. Then it seemed to go away.

My sternum has been sore to the touch for two years, since the first time I got costo, and any kind of stress on the ribs will cause a flare up. I can't take anything for inflammation so I use lidoderm patches for the worse areas and heat til it is gone.

My costo comes and goes.  It's bad when it hurts to breathe.  I use ibuprofen with food to help it.  If there was a cure, we wouldn't be talking about it now!  LOL

Here is a link that might help you.
