If you have any experience with a diagnosis of [or information about] MCTD I would love to hear about it.  I have seen several of you list MCTD as a health challenge and I would appreciate any info you can share. I was diagnosed with MCTD in early 2003 by a rheumy in Bham, and told by a rheumy in Montgomery in 2004 that such a thing did not exist. I've been wondering about that. Any thoughts you can share are appreciated.

Hi, I have MCTD ( scleroderma, lupus and RA). I initially presented with the classic symptoms,
Raynauds, swollen fingers, and had painful swelling of the joints in both my hands and feet.
I also was getting strange rashes on my chest and neck, they did not itch; they burned.

My rheumy started bloodwork, complete blood counts, comprehensive metabolic panels, ANA
testing, along with antibody testing(ANA8 ELISA). After repeated testing, I showed I was
positive to the Antibody RNP. MCTD is the only Connective Tissue Disease that only one specific
antibody is necessary to make a diagnosis. RNP shows up in other CTD's such as lupus and
scleroderma but with other antibodies present. Initially my rheumy diagnosed me with UCTD,
meaning Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease, meaning other antibodies might develop
and I end up with one CTD instead of an overlap of three.

Scleroderma is the dominant of my overlap. I have had a skin biopsy that confirmed a
variant of scleroderma. I take Methotrexate for my MCTD. It is a low dose chemotherapy
drug I take once a week. The drug is an immunosuppressant so I have to becareful not to get
an infection. Hope I was able to answer your question.
