Hello all!!!

I'm new here, and I've noticed that many people sign with and often talk about meds. I have had about 3-5 doctors which keep prescribing me the same group of meds that don't really seem to help. I bet the "oh so wonderful" and "struggling for money" prescription medication companies visit these doctors all the time, bearing many wonderful gifts. I'm so sick of it!!! I have asked many times to switch things up, but they keep saying that these particular are the "best" for treating FMS and RA (I'm 23 BTW). Even I know that people react differently to medication. Any how, here is a list of meds I've been on (prescribed at different times during last 5 years). The ones with the dosage are my current meds.

*tramdol (50mg 3xs a day), vicoden, percocet (one half 1-3 time a day, 1-7 days a week, it really depends) , lorotab

*Flexeril (5-10mg at night and/or as needed), soma, skylaxin, valium

*Lyrica (150mg 3x a day) , Topamax , Cymbalta (60mg in mornings), Lexapro

*Ambein, Lunesta, Trazodone (150mg at night)

*Hydroxychlorquine, 800mg ibprophine

Sorry if spelling is off. I'm too tired and lazy to look it up. I really want to revamp my med regimen, because of my unrelenting fatigue. I'm soo exhausted. I'm a college student and work full time in order to keep my health insurance. Fibro fog is really holding me back. My grades are slipping and keep messing up at work. Ive asked for a type of stimulant to help my concentration, but they just lowered my meds. It defiantly has made things worst.

So, what meds have worked for you,and-or what are you currently taking???
Sorry so long winded, I have no one else to talk to who understands he frustration of FMS, CFS, RA, etc.
Thanks and wish everyone a pain free day.

For me it's two...celexa and neurontin. Last night I was hurting so very much...had taken my neurontin for the evening. I remembered the neurologist suggesting that my dosage of neurontin be upped. So I took another and oh the relief! For a while I actually felt like my old self...no pain. I had actually forgotten what it feels like. It's a great feeling. So neurontin works for me at least.

Personally, I will never ever take another prescription drug that is peddled to help fibro pain/fatigue.  I will sit in a chair and cry through the flares first.  This is my first week of weaning off Lexapro(did it over a four month period) as it did nothing for my pain or other fibro issues.  What it DID do was turn me into an emotionless drone...which I guess is it's job.  Also gave me permanent blurred vision, chonic dry mouth and made my RLS worse.  The withdrawals are brutal.  My brains feel like they are being zapped with a stun gun and I can't move my eyes or head with a nauseating swishing sensation.  This can last for weeks or months.  My doc simply said 'go back on it and try weaning again in another month or two."  No way...ever ever.  I will stick to Advil and Tylenol and put up with what ever is thrown my way.

I wish I had a more positive response to your question...I know the suffering is overwhelming.  But for me the side effects of all these drug combo's are far worse than the disease.  Sometimes less is more, but that's just my humble opinion.  I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi Maggie and welcome. I was on amitriptyline, for anxiety, when I got fibro and I do believe it helps with the pain. However it is horrible to get off of. I've been on 100 mg for about 12 yrs. I've been just using tylenol but my rheumy and GP have suggested a little neurontin to see if that helps. Sadly, the pain level keeps going up with each season it seems and I have osteo arthritis to add to the pain. My doc said yesterday that neurontin is good for a lot of different pains. I have a bad medphobia which doesn't help with trying different things. I also take xanax for anxiety but it also relaxes the muscles.
We have members on many different things. Some do take adderal and provigil to keep them alert.
It has to be hard working full time and going to school with fibro. Hang with us and hopefully we can help you.
luv and hugs

Hi Maggie, Welcome to the forum!

I feel your frustration. I think we all hope the new drug we are put on is going to be the ONE
that finally makes us feel like we did before Fibro. Savella is my new hope. I have been on it for 3 months now and did feel a noticeable improvement after 7 weeks. I have been
flaring the last couple of weeks and have been taking Flexeril before bed some nights.

I also have RA as part of Mixed Connective Tissue Disease(Scleroderma, Lupus and RA).
My rheumy prescribed Methotrexate for that. It is supposed to slow down the progression
of autoimmune disease because it is an immunosuppresant.

I am never pain-free, but I do have plenty of pain manageable days. Keeping active and
ejoying time with my husband, family and friends helps we cope and does distract me
from pain. How I wish I had a magic med for all of us to relieve us from pain!

Hi Maggie and a great big welcome.  I admire you-full time work and a college student with fibro.  It must be hard to do.  I take amitriptyline at bedtime and it really helps me sleep.  I was taking generic voltaren for my fibro and osteoarthritis pain.  Unfortunately I had some abnormal kidney function readings so I had to stop the voltaren.  Now I just take arthritis Tylenol for pain with an occasional ibuprofen.  Also occasional fioricet for the headaches I get.  Is this working?  Not all the time.  I have days that I wish I had something stronger but I have had so many bad reactions to meds and now the kidney problem which kind of scares me.  Getting that rechecked next month.  My arthritis is pretty bad in my hips and spine so sometimes I'm not sure which is causing the pain-fibro or arthritis.
I  try to exercise everyday and I really think this helps, even if it is only a walk with gentle stretching afterwards.  Some days I have to force myself to get going.  I also take malic acid with magnesium and I feel I get some relief from this.  Many people here take this also.
I hope you find a combination of meds that helps you.
