I decided to get up really early this morning. I'm normally awake by 3:30am, but today I decided to get up and begin doing things around the house. I wanted to get an early start on cutting veggies, then I wanted to clean out shelves on my porch. After I got up and walked the dog, I changed my mind and started on the shelves first. DUMB! I tried to move a plastic tub that has stuff in it - heavy stuff, not sure right now what, just heavy. I felt my lower back give out, since then I am all stooped over and the back is swollen. I laid on the heating pad for a bit, tried to cut some veggies. I did it, but I felt like my leverage was off. I had so many things planned for today. I have completed 3. I am so annoyed w/ myself. The shelves could have waited, but I forget sometimes - the old gray mare, she ain't what she used to be. Ouch.
My DH's vacation starts when he gets home from work tomorrow morning. We have plans for the next 1 1/2 wks. This wasn't what I had in mind.
We are calling for a pizza, can't stand up to cook today.
Hope everyone has a wonderful, joyous, delicious Thanksgiving. I am so thankful for so many things in my life, one of the best is all the wonderful ppl here. What a terrific family!!
God bless.  Alice.

Oh, Alice!  I'm so sorry you hurt your back.  Listen, try ice instead of heat.  That will bring down the swelling and maybe the nerves that are being pinched will be released.  When my back goes out, that's what I do.  Heat feels good but it won't help the swelling.

Yes, use some ice when you first injure your back. After the swelling goes down, use heat. So sorry this happened to you, Alice. Sometimes we just want to be like everyone else and do stuff.

Take care and rest.

Ladies, you were right!! That's what I love about this place. Someone(s) has a good idea how to help me fix my stupid. I put the ice on last night and it did help a bit. I'm going to take a shower and put on my comfy sweats and apply the ice again. I will take some Tylenol or some Tylenol - options, options. I am almost upright, at least my knuckles don't scrape the floor.

Queen Erma said, Housework, done right, can kill you. Wise woman. I need to remember her wisdom BEFORE I decide to be a Domestic Goddess. I had to do some non-Christmas shopping after dinner, walking around the store was tough just after getting out of the car. By the time I got to checkout, I was doing a bit better. The cashier had been on all day and just had the sweetest way about her. I thought if she can be so pleasant after working a long holiday, I shouldn't complain.

At the crack of dawn tomorrow I will be at the grocery store, I couldn't do that Christmas shopping craziness. My grocery store is so quiet on Black Friday. After that we will go out and about. Not going away, can't afford it, just need the time away from work (DH) and stress(me). We have had more dr appt these past few wks, and my DH has 3 cardiac tests scheduled on Monday. Hopefully, the tests will turn out well.

Thank you for your good ideas and your good wishes. We will be together, so that alone makes it a good vacation. I will be checking in while on vacation. Thank you for looking out for me. Hope you all had a great holiday w/ your special ppl.

God bless.  Alice.

I sometimes think we feel we have to do the "all out" thing on holidays b/c others expect it. I have come to believe, well, then they oughta do it. When we begin to approach these festive lol, holidays, I have two simple dishes I make. Turkey, sometimes just a partial bird, boxed stuffing and baked sweet potato casserole. Period. Sometimes I just do the casserole and buy precooked turkey or get a roasted chicken from Swiss Chalet. Period. Bigger fish to fry. If I'm going down, it's going to be with a meaningful purpose. Period. Scroge

Don't know what you were thinking either, but we've all done something foggy like this when our brains are out to lunch... Hope you're better soon.

Hi Alice-

I'm new here, but have had a bad back for years so wanted to add a comment about ice. Ice several times a day at first - can't be too much. When you feel better heat is good to use - except when you've been up doing normal activities - using your back again can cause minor swelling so use the ice again if it is back pain - not general achy/pain.

Hope you are feeling well soon and able to enjoy the time off with your husband.

Still a mystery - heat/humidity intolerance
