Hi everybody,
The other day I woke up with a stabbing pain in my right chest/back. The doctor said I had pleurisy, which means my lung's wall was inflammated. He said my lungs sound fine and it was nothing serious, other than the horrible pain I had. Had anybody experienced this and what your doctor told you>?

Hi, Yes, I have had the same issue. I had my issue on the left side of my chest. I had a lot of pain and thought I was having a heart attack. Went to the ER and they told me that I had just wall inflammation. (pleurisy)

Yes, I have had this four times.  I don't know if it's tied to the Fibro. though.  My husband has also had this and he doesn't have Fibro.  Hope you feel better soon, I know it's painful.

I have had it off and on since I was 18 ... but have always suspected that it is somehow related to the pneumonia that I had 20 years ago. Sometimes I get a stabbing pain in the same area and it HURTS ... makes it hard to breathe ... and it's not generally related to having a cold or congestion ... it just shows up sometimes.

Keep an eye on it though it you DO have a cold .. because one time I assumed I was just having another round of pleurisy and ignored it for a few days .. and it WAS pneumonia!

Hope you get some relief soon .. I know it hurts. And I'm learning that if you have FM, one hurt = lots of hurts!

The first time I had pleurisy, it was following a very nasty case of pneumonia (also the first time I had pneumonia). I have had both several times, and also costochondritis. I couldn't get rid of that whole mess for almost 2 months, the first time.
My dr didn't seem to think it was really bad, since I didn't have a fever. I rarely have a fever, by her standards. I have very low temp normally, so by the time I get to 98.6, that is a fever for me!  When I wasn't responding to her meds, she was rather dismissive, it couldn't be that bad. I have since P, P, & C several times, and I have S O B. The dr never made any connections to FMS, then or later. She really didn't (doesn't) understand FMS, so we had a parting of the ways.
The whole thing is terribly painful, I do hope you are feeling better.
God bless.  Alice.

I had pleurisy a few times, mostly after bronchitis or pneumonia. It hurts like the dickens and you really do need to rest a lot.

I was diagnosed with fibro yesterday though suspect I've had it for years. I had pleurisy 15 years ago, the pain was severe and acute in the ribs and lying down/sleeping was excrutiating. I am wondering if the pleurisy triggered the fibro and not the other way round. But this maybe because this has been my order of diagnosis.

Does anyone else wonder this?
