Hi I havent been on much lately because I have been taking care of my parents bu I wanted to share this information with you. I went the other day to a pain management doctor. omg what a sweetheart of a doctor. He understood everything I told him,he also explained to me everything about fibro. I also have lupus so he explained about that to. He started me on lyrica and in 2 weeks he is starting me on savella. He told me that amitripiline is an old medicine and not to take it anymore, also effexor wasn't doing it for me either. I started taking lyrica yesterday and OH BOY! was I sick for 3 hours I had to lay down and not move. I had nausea and lightheadness. OMG it was awful. He has me on 75mg twice a day. I do have to say my pain in the morning is gone. I can move around and also the swelling in my fingers are not bad like they use to be. I want to keep taking it. So I would like to know if anyone has had this symptoms taking lyrica and eventually the effects go away. the doctor did tell me if I can just get through the effeccts for 1 to 2 weeks it should go away and I would be golden. Also I wanted to know if anyone was on savella. I want to kn ow what thatr is like to take. Any information on these drugs would be greatly appreciated.

I am one of those that can't take lyrica, or any meds in the same class. I have tried almost all of them and just can't tolerate them. I have heard the side effects go away and the med can work wonders so I hope that happens for you! Good luck and keep us posted!

I know you want honest answers, so - - I tried Lyrica this winter and it worked great for awhile.  I started at 75 mg twice a day too, and then doubled it after a week.  No bad side effects (except maybe more spaciness even than usual!) and it really helped the pain.  But by the time I quit (after 3 months) it wasn't doing a thing.  So, I saw no point in continuing.  But who knows?  It might be just the thing you need.  I hope so!
After that, I tried Tramadol and Effexor and they also helped, but the side effects made them not worth it.  I've been on Nortriptyline (1 molecule different from Amitriptyline) for 18 years.  Every time I bring up the idea of going off of it, my doctor says he thinks it's still helping with my sleep.  So I stay on..

I started Lyrica over 2 years ago. The side effects only lasted a few days. It helps me sleep, but doesn't do anything for my pain. Diane

I have taken Lyrica for awhile; first 150 mg at night, but then another dr. switched it to 75 am and pm. I am lucky to have had no side effects. When I have missed a dose I really notice the pain increases.

I did also take Savella with the Lyrica for awhile, but I had very bad hot flashes with it. I just didn't feel it was helping enough to tolerate them. My dr. said he had never heard of the hot flash side effect, but believe me, it was real!

Good luck as you find what works for you!

Hi Greyhounds Mom,

I have been taking Savella for almost two weeks. I have to say that it has gotten me up and moving and the pain has lessened. I have been down for over a year and I've been on pain pills for that long as well. The pain pills never got me up and moving around. The Savella is a God send. I don't wake up in as much pain as I used too and I don't take my pain pills as much either.

I hope it works for you. Good luck.

eyes smurf Hi to everyone! I took Lyrica for over 5 months. It provided very little relief. I went to a new dr-an internist. He took me off Lyrica and rxd Gabapentin and Savella. In less than 2 weeks my pain was lessened. I went back to my new dr almost last month and he rxd Gabapentin 600 mg 4xdaily and kept the savella 50 mg 2xdaily. I am absolutely thrilled with the results! I only have pain in my arms 3-4 and my legs pain level is 4-5. My legs get sooo stiff after sitting no longer than 5-10 minutes. I am so happy for the relief I have! Hope yall are having LPD. May God Bless everyone! Donna

I want to thank everyone for the imput you gave to me about lyrica. I have been really light headed the last couple of days with it but I am going to stick to it for awhile because it does help me with the pain. I also have to wean myself off of effexor so I can start savella in 2 weeks. So I am going to start that today. The doctor told me that savella and lyrica together works very well also he said I might tend to loss some weight because that is what savella does. I certainly won't mind that I noticed I put on some punds with lyica already so hopefully when I start savella I can get back what I was a week ago. We'' see. Plus hopefully the pain can be managed also. excuse the spelling this morning but I have fibro fog bad this morning. Keep you posted on my progress
