Need some confirmation that these symptoms that I am having our Fibromyalgia not something else. I do know that I could go to my doctors's but trying to avoid a office charge. I wake up every morning with stiffness and tender soreness throughout my body. Examples, feet, ankles, knees, elbows, hands and fingers. It takes a while of walking around to loosen some but not all the way. At night it seems to creep back. Rest does not help. I can see that exercise (meaning just moving) does. Unfortunately, I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome too. So my energy is really low and it makes it hard to exercise. This has been going on for 3 weeks now. I have had this in the past but never this bad for three straight weeks. All I take is Advil because everything else causes side effects that just give me more symptoms to deal with.

Welcome to our forum!

Sorry, I'm not qualified to make a diagnosis. Fibro has too many symptoms that
connective tissue diseases have.. It took years and three rheumys to figure out what
was wrong with me.

Do read fibro 101 page one, 1st thread, There is a link...What else could it be?
fibro 101 has a wealth of info pertaining to fibro. hope you check it out.

Initially bloodwork is done to rule out connective tissue diseases ie.. lupus, RA,
x-ray and MRI are sometimes used to rule out other diseases

It is important that you do get checked out so that you can get treatment. In cases
of autoimmune disease you want to make sure there is no damage being done
to internal organs.

Good luck to you and hope you can get relief. Exercise and heat helps fibro and there
is a myriad of differant meds to help. Keep us posted. we do care!

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I have to agree with Robin 100%. You need to get checked out by a dr. to see if this is something other than fibro. You want to make sure you are getting the proper treatments. Im sorry we cant be more helpful, it sounds like fibro but there are other diseases out there that can have alot of the same symptoms. Welcome to our fibro family and there are alot of wonderful people on this board.

I also have Sjogrens Syndrome and Arthritis. I do believe this flare up is Fibro though.

Hi, MIrvin, and welcome!  Yep, it sounds like fibro....but it also sounds like several other illnesses that you can receive medical help to ease your situation.  We all have had to go through a myriad of testing to rule out the other illnesses before a diagnosis of fibromyalgia is given.  Plus, we are not doctors here.
As Robin has suggested, check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibromyalgia including links to symptoms and also a link called What Else Can It Be?  You will learn a lot there.
I'm so glad you found us and joined in!  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Welcome MIrvin. My husband has Fibro and he has the same symptoms with alot more on top of that. He wakes up every morning stiff as a board all his joints hurt. He has fallen down stairs because his ankles wouldn't work right.

But the stiffness is what got us to go into the doctors to try and find out what was going on. After all his tests and many many vials of blood it came down to Fibro and Sleep Apnea. His sleep disorder also was contributing to the stiffness.

So everyone is right go tot he doctor and jump through all their hoops then they can find some answers.

Please keep us informed

Hi MIrvin

Try to get an appointment with a rheumatologist. There aren't very many of them because they have to take two residencies and are paid poorly, but even if it takes 3 months to get an appointment it's worth it.

If your pains are mostly in your bones or joints it may be arthritis or soemthing else (or something on top of fibro), but if it's muscle pain fibro is a good possibility. Do check out the Fibro 101!

I get no relief at all with any of the NSAIDS (Advil, Motrin, Aspirin ...). 3 Tylenol helps a little. Tramadol helps a lot, but not the extended relief one - horrible side effects!
