I get sharp pains in my chest also. The thing is, don't panic, it will make the pain so much worse! Lay down, concentrate on relaxing and breathing, stressing makes the pain so much worse. It's not your heart, it's the muscle in your chest. Be firm with with those gov. Doctors, they are not always much of a help if you let them be in control.

Fibromyalgia, low vitamin D, possible back issues, Central sleep Apnea, who knows what else....currently taking Lyrica, Ambian CR, Vit. D, daily multi vit. With Iron, fish oil, and Ibprofin as needed.

My pain is either my whole chest, or it is on the right side, I get electric type pains if I move wrong or strech to far. I panic also the first time this happened but all I could do was lay there and pray and breath as deep as I could. My chest is very tender at night if I do to much during the day, it took time to learn to respect my bodys limits and force myself to stop and rest when needed. Stress will
push you to the edge if you don't relax. I use to be on gov. Insurrance also, don't let them push you around. :)

First of all feline try to calm down and relax, not everything is bad news and it could very well be your fibro, however I would suggest that you go in and get it checked out. Make sure to request that you want a chest X-ray. However the main thing you can do for yourself right now is to stay calm because stress and anxiety are only going to make it worse.
Gentle Hugs

SilentStorm29, Thank you again,! this Govt. hospital is Wonderful sometimes, other times
they will experiment on you, you never know what to expect. I am VERY FIRM and fight for my rights but that only goes so far with them! I cannot se a "regular Dr." I have to see
"residents" they practice on the POOR people to learn how to become a "REAL DR"
It's like pulling teeth to see a specialist, even then , they are "residents'.
Example, I broke my right shoulder in March, went to the ER, 12 hours... I had to make an appt. with my primary and get a refferal to go to ortho! Hello, the xray proved it was broke, but ER cannot put in reff., so I go to my primary, get a ref. and it took 3 weeks to see an Orto, 8 weeks to to phys. therapy. The theripist was MAD and said I should have been in therapy 2 weeks after the break!!! Right, they just do not CARE!!! You are a "lab rat" to them.
If you have private ins. you see real TOP NOTCH Dr.s, if you have medicare or medicaid, you go up 1 step, if you are low income and part pay, you are on the 3rd level. If you have hardly ANY income you go to level 4. If you are HOMELESS you cannot get a primary Dr. You can only go to the ER.
You have no idea how HORRIBLE this is. It is INHUMANE if you ask me!!!
I have no choice, sometimes, I just want to stop going and let Nature takes its course.
I am scared to DIE, so I go through HELL and have to take my chances with this place!!!
Thank You again,I need answers and to vent, felinefanatic cry

cry  Hi Shirley, thank You for replying. I cannot calm down. I have taken 3mgs. of xanex in the past few hours(every night for 28 years) it does'nt work well anymore, I ned to increase the dose but refuse to. This is a BAD VERY ADDICTIVE DRUG. the more you take, the more you have to take, it can KILL you from withdrawl. My Dr. that prescribes it told me I would most likley NEVER get off it because it would require my going in the hospital, being monitored 24/7 because of sezures etc.. and be put on an IV drug like valiumto help with the withdrawl. I go to a Govt. hospital for LOW INCOME and she said they would NEVER pay for that.
She is right!!! They will not even give me an rx for it, they said they would give me enough for 30 days to get off it, but NO MORE!!!  It would KILL me to get off that quick after 28 years, my private Dr. that I have to pay out of pocket$$$ to see, agrees, it WOULD KILL ME!!!
I swear, I live in CONSTANT PANIC and STRESS 24/7, my body feels like it is giving up, I feel like I might die anytime. I have SO MANY STRESSORS in my life right now, I feel like I need to be in a rubber room.
                          Thank YOu for listening, felinefanatc

Felinefanatic, I sounds like you are under major stress from many different things and you're right...stress CAN kill you. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you MUST see your doctor and ask for a referral for counselling to help you cope. You are beyond being able to help yourself mentally IMO, and in order to keep your panic at bay, I really think you'll need help from a professional.

I realize you're scared about this pain you're feeling, but you sound especially terrified that it's your COPD. Why is that so scary? Are you afraid you won't be treated properly? Or that you'll die during the surgery or something similar? You really must find ways to let go of these stresses. Perhaps when you start to worry about something, you could sit down and start an immediate "What if" scenario. Look at everything you're afraid might happen, and the come up with a solution for it. Brainstorm with people who love you so they can participate and perhaps one day benefit from.

If you are able, it would also be helpful for you to consider taking a yoga or tai chi or meditation course. Each of them offers ways for you to expand on how to take care of yourself in stressful situations. Well worth looking into IMO.

I hope that you decide to take steps to dissolve your stressors and regain control of your own life again. It sounds like you have a fantastic husband, so hopefully he'll read this and perhaps try some stuff too.

My chest gets like that on occasion and thankfully it's been a while. With me it's the arthritis. I always thought my
Dad was nuts when he said he had arthritis in the chest until it hit me. I also have it in my ears...the bones fuse together
and I have lost some of my hearing. Stretching helps me or massaging it with my fingertips to loosen the muscles.

Hi Feline!  Take a deep breath!  If you do have fibro, there are two trigger/tender points above the breast, exactly where you are descibing your pain.  When you are stressed they will be sore to the touch and can ache, burn, sting or stab and the pain will radiate.  I am having the same issues with the tender points in my butt muscles, hips, knees and shoulders right now and I know how painful and disturbing it can be.   So many of our symptoms mimic other serious health disorders but once you understand how this disease manifests, you will calm down.  I think it's just the muscle in your chest.

I also have that type of pain on the left side above my breast and it radiates to my shoulder.  I was in the ER and after tests they determined it was the fibro.    They asked me if I had done something to aggrivate it.  WEll, I did have my 4 yr old son on my shoulders, hiked and pulled weeds.  Could that have done it?  Absolutely!  I also suffer from anxiety and depression and it is so easy to let them control  your life and way of thinking. It would be very beneficial to see a therapist who can help you and give you some coping skills to use when you are in an attack either panic or depression.  Listening to music, taking a shower, or taking a walk helps me sometimes.  Please take care of yourself.

Hi, Feline Fanatic, and welcome!  Wow!  Your stress and anxiety I think are playing into how you feel...big time!  You do need to get a grip.  I was just like you many years ago.  I couldn't read anything medical because I immediately thought I had it!  I was getting pains up my head and very dizzy and it was all caused by anxiety.  They had me on Valium.  Medications help but YOU need to take some control, too.
When I realized the anxiety that was making me miserable was fear, I decided to face it head on.  I knew when anxiety was creeping up on me so I would distract myself and get busy doing something else and pretty soon I was feeling better.  It took practice but now I rarely have anxiety attacks and, if I do, they are short-lived.  I also have a strong faith and the scripture in my signature helped me with anxiety.  That's why I put it there.  Many of us on this forum do have anxiety issues.  If the scripture helps just one person, it's worth it.
I do have chest pains.  It's tight across my chest and if I press on the sternum (breast bone) it is tender.  Sometimes it hurts to breath.  It's called costochondritis.  My doctor has my taking ibuprofen with food for that and it does help.  It actually goes away but will come back for a visit!  shakehead   Here is a site about it.  See if this sounds like what is going on with  you.  If it's costochondritis, it can be eased and is nothing to worry about.
Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot.
Fibromyalgia can be a pain...literally....but it doesn't kill you.  You can live a full and enjoyable life with fibromyalgia.  I know because I have!  But you do want to be checked out to rule out other things that can give you some of the same symptoms.  These other things can be helped.
I'm so glad you found us and joined our family!  We have wonderful members that love to help one another and, as a bonus, really do care about each other, too.  I think you will like it here.  Please try to relax.  Use Lamaz breathing and try not to worry so much.  You've got a great life ahead of  you so look forward to it with anticipation.  Meanwhile, don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you.  Hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi Feline,
Yes, please...take a deep do have to calm down or you will end up soo much worse. Sherrine is so right on it with costochondritis. It feels really bad and I thought I was having a heart attack when I first got it. I was in the ER they were running all kinds of tests. Everything came back negative. They thought I pulled a muscle or something...come to find out later per my rhuemy is was costochondritis. It is painful, and can make you really think something bad is going on. But it does pass, and unfortunately...I get this about twice a year or so. But you really do have to work on controlling your thoughts. Yes I know its easier said than done, but the anxiety and still will make all of your Fibro symptoms so much worse. Just known...(I am no doctor but....) this too shall pass and you should seek medical help and you will then be OK.
Hugs to you

Hi feline fanatic, I also feel pain in that area. Our muscles tend to tighten when we
are in pain so doing gentle stretching helps. I found by doing deep breathing
and meditation, I can also help relax my muscles and bring down my pain level.
I'm so glad you have joined us!

silentstorm29,sotiredoffibro,msbunky,vestabula, livenlaugh and sherrine,
I want to THANK each and EVERYONEONE of you!!!
I am OVERJOYED I found this forum, Everyone is so KIND!
I cannot say Thank You Enough, I am going to try to reply to each of you, I
Am trying to get ready for work. UGH!!!
A Quickie to answer a few questios, I am seeing a counseler but her schedule is limited
and she is DROPPING THE BALL!!!
Yes, My COPD TERRIFIES ME!!! I am afraid I will not recieve proper treatment, it has
happened too many times in the past. I have SO MANY HORROR stories I could tell you all about this Govt. hospital it would make your stomache turn. It has been on the Local News more than once!!! You have to sign a "LIMETED LIABILITY" staement saying (more or less) that if they cut off the WRONG leg you will seek NO MORE than 100.000 dollars, if they kill you, your child etc, you will seek no more than 200,000 dollars. It happened to two women (cut off the wrong leg) they were on the Local news, their Atty. said he did not know if he would be able to get them compensation or not, partly because of the "STATEMENT you have  to sign and due to Floridas Malpractice laws.
The last few times I signed this, I crossed thru the amounts, the girl looked at me and I said, "I do not Agree with this, If they cut the wrong leg off or whatever OTHER mistakes they make, I want MORE than THAT!!! " I am waiting to get TOLD that if I do not agree, they will NOT see me.
This is a MAJOR TEACHING HOSPITAL, the residents have to learn what will happen if they do this, what will happen if they don't do this etc...TRUST me when I say SOMETIMES you are a LAB RAT to them.
I called an ATTY. once about something that happened and was told NO ATTY. would take the case because 100,000 would'nt even cover the paperwork, much less pay them, their employees, court fees, experts to testify etc... This place knows they can get away with whatever they do.
Haveto get ready for work now, will post later.
