I've been up and down all night with muscle cramps on the tops of my shin and in my back and hip.  Any suggestions on how to make this stop anyone? I'm exhausted. Thankfully my boss let me have today off because the clinic is not busy-hoping to take a nice long nap when the kids leave for school. smhair

wow, I never thought I would be the one to keep repeating myself on what something has done for me. I used to have the muscle spasms at night and there were nights I had it in both legs at the same time. I have had nights where it was on and off all night. I was willing to try anything, I did the soap under the sheet and that did help for awhile, however they came back even stronger. Finally a friend suggested magnesium. I bought a bottle at Wal-Mart and I take 400mg daily. I very seldom have muscle spasms at night now and if I do get one it is not even close to as severe as they used to be.
I hope this helps.
Gentle Hugs
P.S. Dont take the magnesium on an empty stomache

Thanks Shirley, I did not know magnesium helped with muscle cramps. I'm on potassium with my bp med but sometimes it seems to make it worse. Will pick up some magnesium today

I used to have problems with muscle spasms at night also. I now take 500 mg of magnesium about 2 hours before bedtime. That was my chiropractor's suggestion. That did the trick for me. If I've had a busy day and that dosage doesn't seem to cut it I'll take another 250mg. Magnesium also has a calming effect for some people so it helps with sleep. I would definitely try it. Lisa

I used to get muscle cramps until I started eating banannas frequently. They
are an excellent sourse of potassium...OJ and tomato juice is great too.

Calcium helps too.  I use that.  Before I started taking more calcium, I had to take quinine tablets for the cramping.
