I know this may sound wierd, but has anyone ever heard of a connection between cystic fibrosis and fibromyalgia?  I ask because I am beginning to think there is more to my problems and illness than just fibro.  When I was a newborn, I was tested for CF, with a positive result.  They did the "sweat test."  My parents refused to believe that I had CF, and I was tested two more times...both with a negative result.
I don't have ALL of the symptoms of CF (as I am in my late 20s and my lungs up until now have been fine), but I am starting to show signs of something extra going on.  Should I ask my doctor to do the blood and mucus tests?  Or would I be wasting his time with it?  I'm really not sure if I'm grasping at straws for "an answer."  Any input would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

I've always felt that fibro was a mild form of M.S.
If it would make you feel better, I would definitely have all the tests you need to figure out what's going on with you. I'm sure the C.F. test that was run 20 years ago is much more accurate now. I say go for it.

I agree with Cathy, have the tests done if for nothing else but to reassure yourself. It is always better to do things on the safe side. We have to remember that not everything is our fibro acting up. I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi, Sylver, and welcome!  I have never heard there is a connection between these illnesses but you could have both of them.  We have people with fibro and other illnesses, including me.  We do have to remember that not everything is caused by fibro.  It's easy to wonder because we have so many symptoms and many of them fit with other illnesses.  That's why doctors run a battery of tests to rule out the other illnesses before a diagnosis of fibro is made.  The other illnesses can be helped with certain medications.
Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibro and you will learn a lot.
I'm so glad you found us and joined our family.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you.  Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you and I hope to hear more from you soon.

I have Cystic Fibrosis (Mutation Delta 508) and was not diagnosed until I was 37. I've always had severe digestion problems and many complications resulting from it. I have now also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I have a family history of the Fibro so we just assumed it would only be a matter of time. My thing is, how to I combat those horrible rainy nasty days when everything hurts so bad that you can't move?
