Hi, Sickofitall! I'm glad you popped over and joined us! Your leg pain sounds horrible. When fibro hit me, I had arm pain that sounds very similar. It was like I banged my "funny bone" and that electrical shock-type pain shot down in both arms and into my hands and stayed that way for over two weeks. I used ibuprofen but took 600 mg every six hours. That just made the pain bearable until things settled down.
You really do need a doctor that does blood work. That's how a definitive diagnosis of fibro is usually given. Many of the symptoms of fibro are that of other illnesses and you need to get those ruled out, since there really is no test for fibro. Check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. There is one link called What Else Could It Be and you will see the illnesses that should be ruled out. You want to be sure they are treating the right illness!
Moist heat does help some. A hot shower is great. Many with fibro have a Bed Buddy. You can get these in Walgreen's and other places. Or, you can make your own by taking a tube sock, filling it 2/3's full of raw long grain rice and tying a knot at the end. Pop it in the microwave and it gives off moist heat due to the moisture in the rice.
Gentle stretching and gentle exercises do help too. They help to keep the muscles more flexible and that means less pain.
I'm sorry you are going through this but you have come to a good spot. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
