I read a post here recently about massage and I know many with FM cannot tolerate any. But I wanted to post a positive for a change.
FM has taught me, as I'm sure most of you, to live with, tolerate and ignore aches and pains. Unfortunately they are often signals from our bodies that something is wrong. I have neck problems from an accident over 30 years ago and way before FM. I've been ignoring the stiff neck and knots in my shoulders and headaches from this for a long.. long time now. For nearly a year my right shoulder and upper arm have been bothering me and getting worse to the point of it making it difficult to dress and undress.
I finally went to a Massage Therapist this morning - I only scheduled 1/2 hr to work only on my neck and shoulder problem knowing I wouldn't be able to take too much. I must say she knew exactly what she was doing, found every point I could tell was causing all the pain and knew exactly how much I could tolerate. I do expect to be sore as the day goes on and tomorrow but I must say I felt so much better when I left the office! I can tell my shoulders are more relaxed and I even feel like I have more energy.
Wishing you all a touch of relief today ~T
