Hi Julia, Usually to diagnose fibro they do the tender point test after ruling out anything else it could possibly be. I think they are now switching from the tender point test to another curriculum but not sure what it is. Alot of what they do is blood work to rule out other things. Fibro 101 at the top of this forum has alot of wonderful links. One is what else could it be and then there is a link for symptoms of fibro.
I was not diagnosed by a rheumatologist, I was diagnosed by a different specialist, cant remember now what kind of dr. he was. Then I had a sleep study and the sleep study dr. verified it. I have been treated by a neurologist and my Internal Medicine dr.
Alot of us here on the forum have been diagnosed by a rheumatologist though, The one thing to make sure of though with any dr. that you see is that they believe in fibromyalgia. There are still alot of drs. out there that think it is a wastebasket diagnosis. It is becoming more accepted but we still have a ways to go.
Anyhow welcome to our fibro family, feel free to ask questions, vent if you need too and offer support to others if you can. Keep on posting we are here to listen, and Im sorry you are going through so much right now.
