I had my visit with the endocrinologist yesterday to get the full results of the thyroid/cancer.
I had a very large left thyroid. It was 5.7 inches long. That in itself caused enough problems to warrant having it out. While taking it out he noticed a small cancerous nodule, so, he took out the whole thyroid.
Yesterday the new doctor told me that the right side also contained cancer cells. It was a very small area and she believes that those two small spots were contained and there was not spreading to the lymph nodes. I will be getting the radioiodine therapy sometime the end of next week. So, unless the cells grow back, this should take care of it. I will get rechecked in 6 mos. for the possibility of regrowth.
I guess I can now consider my self a cancer survivor.
I am feeling fairly well considering. Hypothyroidism causes fatigue so you can imagine how tired I am.....and the fluid is building up in my eyelids and that is causing me to have eye fatigue and slight headaches from the weight (?). she said that would go away once I start on the synthroid(?).
she is also going to check into some of all the other unusual symptoms I am/had when I get thru all this. She is quite interested in several of the things I have been thru, diagnosed with, not treated for, and why some tests havent been done to claim/disclaim some of these diagnosises. Maybe I will finally get some answers.
My hubby feels so much better since he heard it from her mouth that it was only two small spots of cancer, that the pill should kill any remnants off, and that I should not have a recurrance (based on their size and locations). He would not have felt as relieved if I had just relayed the message. (personally, I am glad that he was there with/for me)
This is going to be a wonderful day. The sun is shinning, the snow is melting and its not freezing cold out.
