Hi, Contranigma, and welcome! I'm glad you decided to pop over here for a visit! Most members have used rheumatologists for their diagnosis but I was diagnosed by a board certified Internist who treats patients with fibro. There are rheumatologists and other doctors out there that still are in the Dark Ages and don't believe in fibro! It's more important to have a doctor who does treat fibro patients then what type of specialist they are.
You see, what the doctors do is run a lot of tests to rule out other illnesses before a diagnosis of fibro is given. Fibromyalgia has many of the same symptoms of other illnesses but there are no definitive tests just for fibro. So, any good doctor can do that.
Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good information about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Be sure to check out the link called Symptoms. You just might see yourself there! Also, other good links to start with are called A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia and What Else Could It Be.
I'm glad you are here and I hope we can help you. Don't hesitate to ask questions. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better and I hope to hear more from you soon.
God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
