Hi, CyberTech, and welcome! I always have pain with fibro but sometimes it's worse than other times. What you were describing sounds like what we call a flare. It can come from overdoing or just out of nowhere! When in a flare, the pain is a lot worse and you do need to take it easy but keep moving and stretching. That seems to help, along with hot showers and a Bed Buddy. You can get these at Walgreen's and other places or you can make your own by taking a tube sock, fill it 2/3's full of raw long grain rice, tie a knot at the end, and pop it in the microwave. It gives off moist heat due to the moisture in the rice.
Standing for long periods of time is very difficult with this illness. I know my legs and back would be killing me if I had to stand for six hours a day!
The butterfly rash can be a sign of lupus, another illness that has many of the same symptoms as fibromyalgia. Fibro has many of the same symptoms as other illnesses so the doctors run a bunch of tests to rule out other illnesses first. AND you can has several of these illnesses going on in your body, too. That's why it's important to have a good doctor...especially one that also believes in fibro. There are some doctors still in the Dark Ages when it comes to this illness.
Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Check out the links called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. These are good starting points in understanding this illness. You just might see yourself there, too!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. I hope to hear more from you soon.
