Yes sir, I sure did! I went on a day trip yesterday. It started out with a wonderful lunch and a little shopping at some wonderful gift-shop type of stores. I bought some Christmas gifts for this season there. Then we headed to the Giraffe Ranch.
It was amazing! We were on trams that took us all over the 42 acre ranch and I saw, up close and personal, ostriches, antelope, zebras, camels, cattle, horses, monkeys, another type of antelope that is nearly extinct in the wild and I can't remember the name of it, and of course the giraffes. The tram had us sitting up high so the giraffes were right in my face! We were given a small branch off Live Oak trees that had leaves on them When you held them out, the giraffes would grab the twig and pull and literally scrape the leaves off the twig. I had to hold tightly to the twig because you don't want them eating that. I was so surprised how strong they were and that twig was clean as a whistle in a matter of seconds!
Then I was given some cabbage. I held it in the palm of my hand and the giraffe would stick out it's blue-black tongue and grab the cabbage out of my hand. Yes, I had giraffe spit on my hands! I fed them for several minutes and one giraffe took a liking to me. He kept looking at me and moving so close that we were eyeball to eyeball! Then I remembered I had a top on that had a leaf pattern to it! I scooted away a little and the giraffe moved in even closer! It was really funny.
What a wonderful experience! The animals weren't the least bit afraid of you. One camel liked another woman and literally had its head in her lap! I just wanted to share this wonderful day with all of you. We can do so many wonderful things in spite of this illness. We just have to keep living our lives to the fullest. Oh, by the way, I think giraffes suffer from fibro because we were told they only sleep between 5-30 MINUTES a day!!!
