Hi, Bloondie, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined the family. I think you will like it here.
Chutz is right about breakthrough pain meds. I have Vicodin in my medicine cabinet for breakthrough pain...have had it there for six years. And you know what? I have never taken one! I know that fibro waxes and wanes and that the bad pain will leave so I wait it out.
I use ibuprofen with food, extra strength Tylenol, malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D3 supplements for my pain and fatigue. To this I add gentle stretching exercises, gentle exercise (walking and swimming) and gentle massages. All of the above works for me to be in control of my pain. Notice, I didn't say pain free. It's difficult to be pain free with fibro and I'm not willing to take a lot of drugs to do that. The drugs all have side effects that, to me, are worse than the pain from fibro.
Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good information about fibromyalgia and you will learn a lot there. Good links to start with are Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. There are links to the gentle stretching exercises and the vitamins and nutrients I mentioned above. This will show you how these work in your body.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. I hope to hear more from you soon.
