Often, the wrong narcotics are prescribed for long term pain relief for Fibromyalgia. Another way to look at this is in the beginning some narcotics work but over time people need increases or the pain relief no longer occurs.
However, certain medications, like Opana do not cause the need for increases. In fact over time a person might have their dosage reduced. On reason for this is the high level of relief the opiate offers.
Moreover, some pain relievers actually target the type of pain that fibromyalgia causes and works at reducing the pain at its origins. Hence, they do not just mask the pain, they reduce it. This is more effective and different from an opiate like Oxycontin.
Furthermore, taking narcotics alone for Chronic Pain is not what Pain Management specialists recommend. Usually medication such as Neurontin and muscle relaxers help reduce the pain. All add to the pain relief from different causes.
In addition, some pain relieving opiates or synthetic opiates do not cause a high unless mixed with certain other drugs which are not prescribed for the doctor.
The reason for the increase in pain in reaction to some narcotics is that neuropathic pain that is poorly treated and continues to leave the person in a lot of pain will increase automatically.
It is as if our bodies say, "Hey didn't you receive my pain signal?" If our nervous system pain is not relieved enough or bodies say, "Obviously, you need a bigger and better message," and the pain increases in response.
When I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia, much of this information did not exist. Recent research proves that fibro pain can be reduced on a long term basis with specific opiates. Moreover, untreated intractable chronic pain is dangerous.
THe war on drugs has made things worse. I remember when Valium was the middle class female's drug of choice. Then suddenly, the war on drugs made it a no-no. We have to overcome our personal stigma of pain relieving methodologies.
This includes the need to care for ourselves on a daily basis be it by swimming or relaxing in a hot tub. Many things we have to do are considered indulgent or lazy in our hard work no matter what the consequence society.
Okay, I will finish my infomercial to keep folks eyes from crossing. I am affected by the disease of TMI, Too Much Information, lol.
