I have been reading the forum for awhile now since I've been ill and I just have a few questions that I would really appreciate others thoughts on.

1. Tender Points - I've seen the diagrams of the tender points in Fibro sufferers. Does this mean that I need to be experiencing pain in these areas in order to have fibromyalgia? For me I ache all over. It's all my muscles that ache as if I've gone through some rigorous workout.

2. Brain/Fibro Fog - From what I've read, most people describe this as forgetting words, unable to think clearly, etc. For me I have this "always drunk" feeling, light headed or like I'm half in dream land. I find it hard to concentrate or pay attention, I feel like I'm always spaced out. This is what brain fog is to me.

3. The progression of my illness has been spread out over a long period of time. I have been experiencing the brain fog thing and fatigue for several years. Then all of a sudden I started having these muscle and joint aches and pains. Then over the past year the muscle problems have gotten much more intense. Is Fibromyalgia something that can develop over a period of time like this or is something that hits a person all of a sudden?

Does this sound different than the average person with this or does it still sound like fibromyalgia?

I'm still trying to find out what's going on with my body and I'm looking at the different possibilities.

thank-you in advance.

JR,

To me it sounds EXACTLY like fibromyalgia. "Always drunk" - mm hmm, I know! Never really 100% all there? That's me! Or maybe always having the achey-breaky flu....

The tender points generally hurt when gently pressed upon. At least that is my understanding, though they can just plain hurt too. I don't think it is strange that the pain came later. Fibromyalgia is like that. I was just responding to another post. I said that I didn't suffer from ibs symptoms, then I had to correct myself and add a "YET" to that. You never know what is going to hit you or when. But don't let this scare you. Take it one day at a time and accept what is happening to you. You might want to try some ginko biloba for the brain fog. It is an herb. But it takes a couple of months to start working. So don't lose faith in it. It is very good for the mind. That is if you can remember to take it. I put my supplements right in with my pills in my pill box. I was always forgetting to take them. Or would run out and forget to buy more.

I hope that this finds you feeling well. Have you looked at "fibro101" It is a stickie at the top of the page. Second thread. It has a lot of wonderful information on it. You may even see yourself in the symptoms. Keep posting. We will answer any questions that we can.

I have the same problems JR and was diagnosed fibromyalgia by 2 good neurlogists, doctors, and hospital, what seems to kill me the most are my legs, they ache constantly, along with the brain fog pressure in my head, eye pain, light sensitivity, I love taking hot baths for my pain though, vicodin helped my leg pain a great deal but these doctors won't prescribe it no more, i may try fish oil next, people been telling me it will help leg pain, i kinda doubt it though, my legs ache so bad i feel like a cripple anymore, hope you feel better.

Hi jr, sounds like fibro to me, in regards to the tender points if you press on these areas you will have pain, but like you I ache all over not just the tender points...

Fibro fog is exactly like you describe it and so is the fatigue, it took me 3 years to get my diagnosis, hope you have a good gp......best wishes shannon

Thanks everyone for your replies.

@ getting by and Shanny63 - These tender points I don't notice any pain until I press in gently it hurts a little. Almost feels like a bruise. I also get this on my muscles when they are sore.

@ scaredofswine - fish oil has been part of my vitamin regime for awhile and I can't say that it has done anything for my leg pain. It's supposed to be very good for you so I continue to take it anyways.

I hear people talk a lot about flare ups. To me this sounds like their symptoms go away or lessen for a period of time and then come back. For me I seem to have this all the time... however I do have a day or two where things are more manageable but then intensify again for a day or two.

Thanks again to everyone.
