So I've been back on the Notriptyline, but now instead of 30mgs, I am on 50mgs. I can say the muscle pain is relatively gone, so it seems like it is doing it's thing. Sure there are times where I have so-called break through pain, but for the most part I am doing quite well on it. There is one minor problem though. I think I have an allergy to this medication.

I actually noticed it before, when I first started taking it. I would wake up and my face would be itchy. I first thought it might be new fabric detergent because I sleep with a pillow over my head/face, so I ignored it. Well now that I am on a higher dosage, I notice it itches a little bit more than it did before. There is no rash or anything, and I don't seem to have any other side effects.

I see my Primary Care doctor next week, so I will discuss this with her. But I really do not want to go off of this medication as it seems like it is the only thing that helps with the pain. I think an itchy face seems like a small price to pay for a relatively pain-free life.

My other issue I am still dealing with is the sleep thing. I am still not sleeping well. Even with Ambien I am still waking up in the middle of the night, most nights. Last night I actually slept until 4:30, so that was great. So it will be time to try something different.

Other than that I am feeling great. It is so nice to not feel weighted down and hurting all the time.

I am glad that this med is working for you and an itchy face is a small price to pay for pain relief. So I wouldn['t want to go off of it either if I were you. I hope that you get your sleeping issues straightened out.

Hugs, Karen

Most definitely talk to your doctor about this.  It's listed as a "severe" side effect for this drug.  You want to make sure this isn't the start of hives.  that can get in your throat, etc. so you do have to be careful.  If your doctor thinks this is just very mild, you can probably use a cortisone cream that is sold over the counter that will help with the itching.  Just be careful.  I sure hope this all works well for you since you are having such great success with this.  Below is the link about nortriptyline that I got my information from.

I've been on Nortriptyline for almost 20 years, and I have some itching problems, too, but not serious. Little red bumps that pop up, usually on my legs or trunk. Never thought of the Nortrip as a possible factor.

My main concern w/it is my tachycardia. I'm hopefully talking to my doctor this week, too, for that reason. We'll have to keep eachother posted.

I'm glad your pain is better, but sorry about the sleep. For years I slept better just w/Nortrip....then I started having problems again, so now I'm on Clonopin, too. Bah! Someday I want to be off all this junk!
