I've taken melatonin for a couple years and I haven't been too concerned about
getting hooked on it because ever since I was diagnosed with fibro in 2000 it was as if a light switch was turned on and I could no longer get that sleepy feeling. It took me hours to fall asleep and I had trouble staying asleep.
I was tried on several varieties of meds and none worked well for me plus they gave me lots of side effects. I tried several sleep supplements and the only ones that work for me are melatonin combined with l-theanine.
Melatonin and L-theanine don't always work for me. If I had a tiring day physically or a stressful day or more pain than usual, I have trouble sleeping. If I don't eat right I have trouble sleeping. So I don't do caffiene or sugar or high fat or spicy foods. I have to try to eat healthy at all times.
Good luck to you.
Fibromyalgia, CFS, multiple chemical sensivity, herniated disks, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, ADD, sjorgens, sleep apnea. I am happy to say the only medication I take is ibuprofen at night to sleep along with my supplements for sleeping. I am on a regiment of different supplements, I eat very nutritiously, and ever since my injury years ago I have been doing my prescribed stretches x2 daily.
