Sherri- I am so sorry to hear about your dog. They become our children in so many ways. I am just worrying about my dog because I have to leave him here while I am out of state. My husband thinks I am crazy. I know she will be missed. She lived a long time, you must took care of her like gold.

….I had a feeling this might get posted here after I found out about it, and did not want to miss out on extending my deepest of sympathies to you Sherrine.

As you know I just purchased my first dog ever from the humane society, and did not know how quickly the bond would happen between him and me. Yes!…they become like family quickly, and at times, better in a way….for various reasons!

As a chronic pain patient, I believe we become even closer, and they are our little soul healers. I have awoke many times in pain in the middle of the night, and bless his little heart he is ready to lick my pain away….or give a good go at it.

Sherrine, I have gotten to know you for the last several months, and you have to be one of the wisest and compassionate people I have met to date in my life. It is with a heavy heart that I grieve with you for your loss. Bless you, as you deal with this, and may you find some sort of comfort in the following days ahead.

In all sincerity your friend,

Michael

Sherrine, I am so sorry to hear that! I know exactly how you are feeling. I had to put 3 of my German Shepherds down within a three year span. The first in 2007, he was 11 and ended up bloating on me. The second in 2008, he was 7 and had renal kidney failure. And finally the third in 2009, she was 9 and had the same thing your baby had, spleen and liver cancer. cry

At least God took her home, and honored your prayers, instead of you having to make the difficult decision yourself. I am now, unfortunately, caring for another one of my babies who has Degenerative Myelopathy, he is going to be 9 in April, God willing he makes it until then. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of dog was she? She will always be with you in spirit, and in your heart, please remember that.......many, many, comforting hugs coming your way.....((HUGS)) Fox

(((((hugs)))))) gentle ones for you. Sherrine I am so sorry for the loss of your Sabrina, take care of yourself during this time. I don't want to imagine what you are going through. I don't know what to say to you, because whatever I say will not bring her back.

Again, thank you for the outpouring of love.  All of you have touched my heart so much.

Sabra was a Havanese.  They are a toy breed and very intelligent.  It was like having a three year old with me at all times.  They are bred for companionship and she was always with me.  If I went to the mailbox and came back in the house, you'd think I'd been gone all day long!  When she was excited, she danced on her hind legs.  I could write about all the wonderful things she did but it would take me days.  She was always very happy and always made me smile.  Even with our walks, walking behind her made me smile because these dogs swival their hips when they walk...like Marilyn Monroe.  She was soooo precious and I miss her terribly.  The house is very empty right now.

Thank you all for your sympathetic posts.  I plan on keeping this thread because it has meant a lot to me.

Good Morning Sherrine,

I just had a thought. Have you ever done a scrapbook? Maybe you could do one on Sabra. You have so many wonderful memories of her and this would give you a place to capture them - at least some of them. When you mentioned her hips reminding you of MM, I thought what a great picture and story that would make about her.

I started a book on all my puppies thru the yrs. I started writing a little journal about each of them and something endearing about them. I set up each page w/ a picture or two of the dog. I worked on each of them, except Trev - still can't get myself to that point yet. Some day I will be able to do his section.

Even if you aren't able to start Sabra's book at this time, maybe jot down some notes and find pictures to match up. It may help you to heal. I hope so.

It's amazing how a little ball of fluff just grabs your heart and won't let go. Even w/ the pain, I'm glad we are the kind of ppl that love that deeply.

Take care of yourself!!

God bless.  Alice.

Sherrine,

I know you are heartbroken over losing your best friend and I feel so sad for you in this loss, but happy that you have such treasured memories of your loyal companion. Some people will never understand the attachment and love that many of us feel for our furbabies, but those of us who 'get it' know that there is a deep crack in your heart right now.

I hope that some of our love and prayers will help fill that space right now. We care about you and are so deeply sorry for this loss you have suffered.

Many hugs,
--Vickie

((((Sherrine))))
I'm so very sorry for your loss and how late I am. I am just reading this now. Oh gosh, I know the pain only too well of losing our best friends, our constant companions and feeling their loss and the emptiness of the home after they are gone. Dogs are such wonderful creatures. They love unconditionally...period...
I lost my very first dog to hemangiosarcoma, cancer or the spleen and like your little Sabra, he was such a trooper and showed no signs of sickness until the day he died.
It never gets easier -- losing them -- yet I can't imagine my life without them.
Again, I'm so very sorry for your loss,
