Hi KSD,

I have injuries along with my fibro so my answer is yes it feels good to get into the water and move but to start out slow.

I participating in water aerobics classes for years. But since my injuries and my fibro I can only tolerate being in the pool for a short time. I tried a fibromyalgia class and it was too much for me.

What's nice about the health club that I go to is they have a warm water pool. If you have arthritis that can make it easier.

I'd give it a shot.  You never know what will help unless you try it because we are all so different.  I have a pool and love to swim in it and it does help me with pain and flexibility.  You are bouyant in the water and that makes every movement easier, too.

Swimming is considered a gentle exercise and gentle exercises really help with pain and fatigue from fibro.  I also walk as a gentle exercise daily.  Some like Yoga.  I don't do Yoga because I wouldn't be able to get off the floor!   devil

KSD,

Several years ago I did try a warm-water class for people with Fibro and Arthritis...it was easy to overdo, because I didn't feel what I was doing as much. So I'd feel great at the time, but afterwards, I'd often have increased pain.

Now, as part of my rehab from spine surgery, I go once a week (usually) and just walk for about 15 minutes. Very recently, I've also started walking sideways and on my toes/heels and. I absolutely love the way I feel for the rest of the day...but long-term, I'm afraid it hasn't changed anything.

Ah, well....it can't hurt! (That is, as long as you don't accidentally push yourself too hard.) The warm water is SO nice...in fact, that's the best part for me. The worst part is getting OUT of the pool in the Winter!

Good luck.

I went to my local YMCA who held a class every Wednesday for people with arthritis and other conditions. I went one time. The pool was busy and I had a hard time hearing the instructor. There was elderly people who were handicapped in this class and one of them almost drowned. The instructor and coordinator of program rushed over to help. The water in the pool was not warm enough for me and when we got out of the pool it was freezing! Needless to say I did not go back. I would try it, you might have a better experience than I did.

I was prescribed water therapy of my initial diagnosis. I *thought* I didn't have time. This was almost a decade ago.

I started a water aerobics class at my local YMCA, one for arthritis sufferers. I loved it. This was five years ago.

Give it a try. It is easy to overdo. But it helps me have more energy, and really helps with my balance and stiffness.

Some health clubs like mine give out a few free guest passes.

Good luck.
