Hi everyone,

I thought it would be nice to get together a collection of quotes to inspire us on those days when this illness gets us down. Please feel free to add your own quotes.

Here's one to get us started:
"Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds."
- Orison Swett Marden
Age: 18
Conditions: Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerances, complex regional pain syndrome, anxiety, allergies, dermatitis, low immunity, tinnitus, restless legs syndrome, slight scoliosis, etc.
Goals: to be an occupational therapist; to explore the world.
"Reach for the moon; even if you miss, you will land among the stars."

Love both of these! Jasmine, I read your quote as saying that the final outcome is not in our hands....we do our part to the best of our ability, and then what will be will be.

I like, "You can only do today what you can do today." Don't know where it came from. Kind of the same idea.

And, "Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense." - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change,
The courage to change what I can change
And the wisdom to know the difference.

My silly one for when I' m scared:
Put your big girl panties on.

Then my favorite:
If life throws you lemons, pick them up and throw the right back.

When life throws you lemons....
Pick them up and throw them right back at them! :))

Re-posted, from Anxiety board, from an original posting by JoJo

“Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” ~Corrie ten Boom
Anxiety Tip: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.” ~A.A. Milne. I realize I answered a quote with a quote, but it’s a classic reminder to make the most of NOW. And you are privileged that you’re here.

. “Life is ten percent what you experience and ninety percent how you respond to it.” ~Dorothy Neddermeyer
Anxiety Tip: Attitude is everything.

“Anxiety’s like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you very far.” ~Jodi Picoult
Anxiety Tip: You have a finite amount of mental energy every day–spend it wisely on things you can control.

“Understanding the difference between healthy striving and perfectionism is critical to laying down the shield and picking up your life. Research shows that perfectionism hampers success. In fact, it’s often the path to depression, anxiety, addiction, and life paralysis.” ~Brene´ Brown
Anxiety Tip: Perfection is impossible in any endeavor. Not to mention a tad narcissistic.

“Most everything that I’ve ever worried about has never happened.” ~Ian Tucker
Anxiety Tip: Worry is the #1 happiness killer.

“Nerves and butterflies are fine – they’re a physical sign that you’re mentally ready and eager. You have to get the butterflies to fly in formation, that’s the trick.” ~Steve Bull
Anxiety Tip: Butterflies are like thoughts–they need to be trained to do what you want them to do.

“Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith.” ~Henry Ward Beecher
Anxiety Tip: Faith uses less emotional energy than anxiety.

I love this one by St. Padre Pio. For those of us who pray:

"Pray, hope, and don't worry." Simple but smart advice!
"Don't let the fear of striking out hold you back." Babe Ruth

This is one of my favorite quotations...

"Yesterday is already a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vison of hope."

This is something I tell myself often.

Look beyond the pain and see

that life is not a misery

it's a chance to live, love and enjoy

to have some fun and spread some joy

Hugs, Robin

have a beautiful weekend! smilewinkgrin
